• Learning acoustic, tips for a beginner?

Hey everyone, I am learning to play my acoustic guitar and I have a few questions; How (if you play guitar) did you learn to play? What videos did you watch or what did you do to become better? How do I know when my strings may snap? What songs did you first learn? Also if you have any tips please let me know thanks!
1. I learned to play by reading tablature of some of my favorite songs. It's best to find the least complicated song you can find, and avoid really intense rhythms until you get a little more experienced. 2. Ultimateguitar.com has a lot of useful tips as well as tablature for a VAST variety of songs. Sometimes, if you're having trouble figuring out appropriate timing and playing, look up YouTube videos of "how to play (insert song you're learning here)". And all I can say is practice as much as possible. For a beginner, the first few weeks will be very frustrating but you musn't quit. Just keep going and break whatever "wall" is giving you difficultyz 3. Acoustic strings are pretty durable, don't worry about them snapping. Just make sure not to use a thick pick and avoid plucking too hard. 4. I started out learning the rhythm sections of Weezer songs. They're simple, usually follow a very basic 1+2+3+4+ strumming style, and very easy to sing along to once you get the guitar part down. Started out on their song "Undone", also known as The Sweater Song. Don't go by my song options unless you actually like the band though. Pick a song you love that's relatively simplistic, and the fact that it's your favorite song will help you get through learning a little better.
Also, if something seems hard, that's a good thing. The more you practice difficult things, the better you get.
I learned by myself. Started with going on youtube or watching my friends play some popular acoustic songs or finding covers of the stuff I like. First of all, learn some chords. You don't necessarily have to cram them from a paper, go ahead and learn some songs and after some time they'll become cemented in your head! Start with less complicated 3-4 chorded songs and keep going up. You can variate between strumming and picking songs. Play a song with strumming chords and then a song with separate notes. A great example of such songs is Ulver - Kveldssanger. It's a great acoustic album and has beautiful compositions which are fairly easy to play! If you have friends that play guitar, you can do both parts and make awesome covers. For tabs, my favorite website is Songsterr.
