Hello, I'm new to urbexing and I have a couple of questions, There is this abandoned building near my house, and I really want to go in it, the two problems are 1. the cops and 2. there is black mold I don't really know how much trouble I can get in for being on the property, and I don't know if the punishment is different for someone under eighteen (I'm fourteen) but I'm not really worried about that, I'm not going to vandalize the place, I'm not going to steal anything, and plus there aren't any signs that say no trespassing, so I don't think I'll get in that much trouble, but that is why I'm asking. also I live in NJ, I figured that would be helpful since laws vary depending on the area. and the second problem, the black mold, I really do not want to screw up my lungs or get really sick, that's my biggest problem, what can I wear that would protect me from the mold, I've heard that the disposable n95 masks protect against mold, but again thats why I am asking, I do have a gas mask, so if there is a filter that I can buy that will protect against mold please tell me, so I guess that is al the questions I have, thanks in advance. Dust mask, take nothing but memories, leave nothing but footprints. A gas mast would hinder your vision/breathing and you'd look like a freak.
As for the law in the UK its a case of leave if your asked unless its railway property, but I'm not sure of american law. Just keep in mind don't have anything like a screwdriver,a knife or anything that could be classed as a weapon or be used for "criminal" damage, just be calm don't run from the police if they spot you, be calm and non-threatening.
Yup I know the motto take nothing but pictures/memories, leave nothing but footprints the only things I plan on bringing are a camera, two flashlights, extra batteries, a couple dust masks (would any masks do?) and of course I'm bringing two or three friends, maybe a first aid kit if I can find one lying around in my house also I will be sure to take some pictures and upload them here
Go for a fine filter mask, eg. what they use at paintshops.
Im going to buy this one: http://www.coopersafety.com/product/msa-organic-vapor-n95-respirator-kit-1209.aspx?utm_source=Google&utm_medium=Base&utm_campaign=Base&sid=100950&gclid=CI-t6avGqaoCFcJo4AodCxBVXQ
A bit over the top don't you think?
I would rather be over the top, than sick
that filter filters out organic gasses not fibers :downs:
organic vapor AND a p95 filter, which I believe filters out fibers also, or maybe I'm wrong
I think p95 is similar to the UK's P3 which is used by asbestos workers
p95 is eqivalent to P2, for dust etc p100 is equivalent or thereabouts of P3, for asbestos, fiberglass etc
Don't worry to much about the police, if you don't break anything and have a camera with you they won't do much. I got caught once (scary as shit since you don't expect someone else ;P ) they where very calm and just asked what we are doing I had my camera around my neck so they already saw that and just asked if we could leave the place. That's all.
When I went urbexing a while back, I brought a crowbar, some water, cell phone, first aid kit, flashlight, and a disposable mask. but of all the things I could've forgot, it was my camera .-.
