Bear with me as I'm having some keyboard problems too so this may be a bit incoherent at points.
My landlord's got us on Virgin Media (UK) with a Super Hub router and no ethernet cables in the house anywhere. Once a month or so our internet connection suddenly drops and won't function at all. The wireless connection to the router is also screwed for all devices, dropping out constantly and not even letting me access 192.168.100.1 for more than a minute before cutting out. Resetting and hard resetting do nothing. Landlord also can't figure out how a washing machine works so he's not gonna be much help. Virgin say it's not a problem on their end.
Anyone got any ideas? I've tried changing the wireless channel but the settings didn't save, apparently because the wireless dropped as soon as I got as far as clicking 'save'. I haven't set the router on top of a microwave or in a mirrored box or anything dumb like that. Is there anything I can do short of badgering landlord to get an engineer out or going out and getting an ethernet cable?
There's not really much an engineer can do with a router, changing the wireless channel is the only thing I can think of, otherwise you need to get a new router
If Virgin Media were the ones who supplied you with the router, and was recently, they should be able issue you with a replacement as this does sound like a hardware fault. I'd recommend that you get in touch with them ASAP if this is the case, If not I could suggest doing a full factory reset of the router and possibly updating the firmware if this is an option.
