Well, with my next paycheck I plan to buy one of the new 15" Macbook Pro's but I had a few questions first:
-First of all, is there that much of a noticeable difference between the 2.2 and 2.3 GHz speeds? I'm leaning towards getting the fastest speed but I don't know if it be worth it.
-Should I go with the glossy or anti-glare screen?
-I'm going to get either the 750 GB 5400rpm HD or the 512 GB 7200rpm HD, is it worth sacrificing capacity for the faster speed?
-Does anyone have any experience using security software on their Mac? I was looking at Lojack and it seems like pretty good software but it's pretty easy to uninstall if you're aware of it. But then again, most criminals are idiots. Would it still be worth getting?
And finally, does anyone have any other tips for a new Mac owner?

Not a Macbook owner, but
How much would that 100 mhz bump be? if its anything more than 10 bucks, don't bother.
Anti-glare screen. the end
Go for the 750 GB drive. The Platter Density of that drive will make up for its slower rpm. If you didn't understand that, the rpm doesn't matter
I'm in the same boat as you and the only thing I might consider upgrading is the hard drive, everything else is not needed. Also, if you can hold off on buying a Macbook Pro, Lion will be out this Summer and standard for all new Macs.

Why the fuck would you come to the Apple section if you hate Apple?

You don't just get a bump in speed, but a massive bump in graphics power that I would lust for. My 2010 Macbook Pro runs Crysis 2 and Bad Company 2 on lowest settings but runs them quite smoothly, but I reckon if I had 512MB or even 1GB of VRAM it would run better at higher settings.
I use CleanMyMac, not really security software but I don't go to dodgy sites/links and even on Windows it would rarely bring up spyware in searches.
As for the screen, I would prefer anti glare (and a nice res bump is good for working/editing) but I can make do with closing the curtains on my glossy display. Anti glare doesn't have as nice blacks but that's the only drawback.
I bought a 500GB Momentus XT 7200RPM drive to replace the 320GB 5400RPM drive, which was okay but I prefer speed especially coming from a desktop.
Adium, Growl, CleanMyMac and get used to using a cmd key instead of control!
I don't think he's jelly, but anyway. It wouldn't matter if you had 1GB VRAM as the GPU in even the best MBP was, and is, pretty damn bad. This has nothing to do with OP's question, though.
OP, if you can, buy a HDD yourself instead of buying it from Apple, 2.3 to 2.3 GHz is not going to make a real difference. There'll be a difference if you jump to an i7, but I wouldn't pay too much for it. Get the anti-blare, and maybe bump the resolution a bit, but that's pretty much up to you.
And the obligatory advice from a PC user: you should really buy a PC, unless you have some software that will only work on a Mac, and is required for you to do something you earn money from.

He was asking about would it be faster, and he doesn't seem to recognise that the spec is boosted in all regards on the next model up. Sure its not a great GPU, but at that level any improvement is significant.

The 6490 is as far I know kinda between the 320M and 330M, if I'm not mistaken. The 6750 is a good deal better, though.

Thanks, I'm probably going to get the 750 GB hd and replace it myself at some point, maybe once SSD's come down a little bit.

I was talking about the difference between the 2.2 and 2.3 GHz CPU in the high end 15" model. I realize the graphics chip is the same.
Also it seems like anti-glare was the way to go.

Actually I was talking about security software that tracks your laptop if it's stolen. A MBP is a big investment, and I'd like to protect it from that sort of thing.
A MBP is a big investment
sorry to go off topic but people who use the word investment wrong make me so mad.
a macbook pro is a liability, its value will only go down when you buy it. investments gain value over time.

Investments are EXPECTED to gain value over time. It does not necessarily have to gain money over time, they are just expected to. A stock for instance could drop in value, even though it was EXPECTED to gain value. Funny how someone who thinks he is a wiseguy fails himself.
When someone describes something as an investment, which has no positive money return, it's used in terms of obtaining an intangible return. This laptop is an investment for him, as from it he hopes to accomplish tasks. Just as college is an investment for you education.
If you've never used Mac before, you might want to check out Apple's switch guide:

I'm getting a 15" MBP from my college that's legally mine to keep, so if it means anything, that's what an audio recording school is handing out.
