Why is everyone adapting to the free to play model, I don't like it at all.
It's currently the "it thing" for designers.
You can't go to a bar with local designers without someone bringing up free to play or unionization. :v:
People are switching to F2P to try to hold better player retention.
If a free game is available, your chances at having a larger audience are pretty high.
If you're lucky you can attract a larger audience willing to pay for items or whatever, so putting out new purchased items consistently can nail a steady flow of money.
At least those are the hopes.

Because when it's done even half way decent, it's better than Pay to Play. Every game that's swapped to Free to Play saw increases in population and revenue from the cash shops. Even TOR had a positive effect and it's so restrictive it makes playing that for free no fun at all, at least if you've played it before.

Because some people - a lot of people DO like it.
Possibly because it's a way of controlling how much you want to spend on a game.
If you do it correctly you can gain more benefit out from it instead of just a normal priced game, still I prefer buying games and not relying on microtransaction or grinding until I get a new item or anything.
I just fucking want HW3, dammit... :/
