The battery is dead, so its not functional
What can i do with this?
Disk managment doesnt recognize it, neither does diskpart
EDIT: I could actually buy a new battery for around 20 bucks, but could I use its hard drive for anything? I dont need another Mp3 Player
Microwave it.
That's a terrible idea.
Not according to the video! Lol.
Ooh! Third gen!
Give it to me and I'll have all the way up to the fourth gen in iPods.
Rockbox?
You could install it for novelty.
Install rockbox, it is TOTALLY worth it.
I have an original shuffle, (and an ipod touch) like the long ones with no screen. Its awesome- if i were you id Scrap it and make it awesome-er though.

my dad's friend has a 1st gen iPod still in the box. he helped design its hard drive.
Keep it, sell it to a museum or something in like 50 years.

To some people, the older ipods are better for many reasons. The sound quality is better than the newer generations, the build quality is bulkier and more durable, and the click-wheels feel better to the touch. You can also install iPod Linux on them, and enjoy a whole new world of apps, games, and software music players, including wma, flac, and ogg playback support.
I'd give up having a flashy color screen and coverflow for an older reliable ipod any day. You can replace the harddrives in them with CF cards too for added expansion and battery life. I replaced the 6GB Microdrive in my ipod mini with an 8GB CF card. Loads songs much faster, and battery life has almost doubled.

I'm sure games are an absolute blast on the huge 2 inch screen of the classic 3G.
Opening this is proving to e a hard task
The only opening I see is along the white edge onto the silver, and when I out my knife in it, it doesn't really fit in, I push it prettty hard too, so in trying to open it I'm scared im going to damage it....
I'm probobly gonna replace the battery just for the novelty of it

This is only applicable to the iPod Mini. The older classic iPods used different hard drives not compatible with CF.

At least, you can't do it on a classic very easily.
iSmash.
Two Words: Skeet Shooting.
I have one of those, I bought it off a kid for like 15 bucks a couple years ago, Nicknamed it the iBrick. Mine needs a new battery too, but I have an itouch now so I don't use it
The sound quality is better
I would actually like to know more about this, What would be the best Ipod sound quality for under 50 bucks with a reasonable hard drive?
All the people suggesting Rockbox need a dumb rating. He said the battery is dead and that he doesn't needs another MP3 player.
The thing is, with all the iPods, that they ain't UMS(USB mass storage). That's why windows doesn't recognizes them as a harddrive. Not sure if there is any "hacked" firmware which allows this, but google will answer that for you. That's also why you need iTunes.
Imo that's just donkeykong bullshit, atleast they could provide a simple setting so you can switch from MTP to UMS. My cheap Transcend T.sonic MP850 even got that.

All iPods before the iPod Touch and iPhone were recognized as USB Mass Storage. The iPhone and iPod Touch just use a different filesystem since they host an entire OS, not just some tiny GUI like the Classics and Nanos.
