Not sure if it's foul play or plain suicide from guilt...
But it's still so fucking sad.
Can't they tell by the way he was hung whether or not it was voluntary?

Everyone's busy with the ferry at the moment, all our attention is on it. It's even crazier and sadder with modern technology, a video came in from a student inside the ship with water rising inside her cabin. Couple that with family grieving, anger, text messages, and etc. no one seems to care about him at the moment.

It says in the article they believe it was suicide.
Hanging from a tree sounds kind of a lot more suspicious than hanging in a closed room. I'm no psychologist but people tend to commit suicide by hanging in their own house or at least indoors, and historically hanging from trees/outdoors has almost always been attributed with lynching and execution, not suicide.
Definitely suicide. It's way too soon after the event for angry people to go around in a lynch mob. He must feel responsible.

True, but people have killed themselves by hanging from a tree. I just remember that Halloween story about the dead lady found hanging from a tree that everyone thought was a decoration for a week, 'till someone complained it was in bad taste and asked the cops to take it down.
Wasn't he the one who told everyone to stay where they were when it started sinking?

Not always true, I've had patients who attempted suicide at work and places like fences.

No, that was the captain.
And apparently he wasn't the usual captain but a stand-in.

This is unrelated to the article, but holy crap that website. So shitty. It hijacked my browser and wouldn't let me close the tab.

Perhaps its less likely but it definitely happens. My uncle hung himself from a tree.
For second there I thought someone from the VICE crew got killed

Maybe the walls and closed doors reminded him of the ship, and the open was more comfortable.
I think it was from a tree because he wanted it to be public, this is a message to the people. If he did it at home, indoors, it's like doing it in secret which is the opposite effect.
I think he felt he shouldn't survive by getting off the ferry if students, who he is responsible for, are still on the boat dying.

Prosecutors in South Korea have asked a court to issue an arrest warrant for the captain of the ferry that sank on Wednesday, officials say.

Kinda leaning towards the theory that he hung himself, but seeing the other article pop up raises a red flag if you ask me

The norms could be different in east Asia. I know Japan has a forest notorious for people hanging themselves from trees almost every day.
Such a horrible circumstance for someone to take there own life, Especially knowing that the boat captain is now headed straight to jail, Maybe even worse, I couldn't imagine having to deal with the grief of knowing that i accidentally was responsible for the deaths of young lives, Such a tragedy.
-ugh fine-

I know that people tend to make jokes when tragedy strikes, but this one isn't funny at all

scottywired, renowned facepunch poster, likes to come up with the hard hitting sensationalist headlines laugh-o-ramas such as 'everyone knows that educators are just trying to make themselves taller' in between dodging accusations of being a pedophile. what will this super guy get up to next, this poster wonders.
It was a reference, not a straight-up joke.
Besides, it's not like I actually feel anything when I come to SH. Seeing grim fucking headlines everyday pretty much deprives a person of the want to sympathize with these things.

Are you saying you are incapable of feeling human emotions, such as sympathy?
Well, aren't you just edgy?
