VANCOUVER—Taser International says its bottom line is hurting and its reputation has been slurred in the wake of a provincial public inquiry report that concluded the weapon can cause death.
In a court application Monday to the B.C. Supreme Court, Taser asked that a judge quash the findings of the Braidwood Commission.
The commission, led by retired judge Thomas Braidwood, released its report late last month following a two-part inquiry into the death of Polish immigrant Robert Dziekanski at Vancouver International Airport on Oct. 14, 2007.
Dziekanski, 40, died after RCMP officers shot him five times in the chest with a Taser weapon.
"We're not making as much money as we'd like to be, so this report should be hidden from the public."
“People have been dying in police custody for hundreds and hundreds of years,” said Neave
:downs: Nice argument.
Taser International, in court proceedings in the U.S., has vigorously challenged any suggestions its weapons cause bodily harm or death. In 2008, the company successfully petitioned a judge in Ohio to order autopsy reports for three men rewritten after a medical examiner made reference to the Taser in association with the men’s death. The men died in confrontations with police.
Who the hell gives a private corporation this much power?
Well, what do you think Facepunch? Don't think we've had a Taser debate for a while. Should their use be reconsidered? Should they continue to be considered "non-lethal" weapons?
It's pretty bad, but it is a necessary evil.

Assuming this is sarcasm, how is it not a good argument? It's true. Even without tasers people have been dying for a long time over excessive force. Don't blame the tool, blame the person using it. In most situation the taser is a brilliant solution and does exactly what it's made to do.
The problem with getting rid of tasers is the alternative is the officers pistol.

I considered it dumb because they just insulted their largest customer.
They're not stupid enough to stop buying from Taser International over that, it wasn't even insulting them directly. They'd probably nod their head in agreement.
it says "after they shot him 5 times"
They don't use tasers here so I'm not really sure about it, but what the hell, isn't 5 times like... unnecessary? I mean, I've seen clips on where one person gets shot with one taser and he was already lying on the ground because of the pain
Reminds me of people catching on fire from getting zapped too much from the taser in Syphon Filter

I bet they tazed him because he wouldn't stop shaking
I don't really blame the manufacturer of the weapons, they don't decide how many times its fired and who it's fired at, but still their argument of people dying in police custody anyway is fucking moronic.
Well, you need a Taser in S.W.A.T 4 to take down the grandmother.
So I'm for keeping them.
Why did they tase him 5 times?
Once is more than enough.
Either they carry Tasers and one person dies, or they carry guns and hundreds of people die. Make a decision.
