lets not do the live-action format at all and keep games 'games'.
This is not surprising given how much live action they used in Alan Wake, most videos coming from the TV's were live action and the last bit of American Nightmare was all live action.

Maybe have them play on TVs throughout the game, acting as part of the atmosphere like in the earlier Max Payne games (I haven't played Max Payne 3, so I don't know if they still have TV bits). Hell, for completionists and explorer types, maybe even have them be tied into collectible video tapes/DVDs. That way, they aren't forced upon you, they're a little extra something to search for along with your Energizer batteries and baked beans, and you're able to enjoy them at your own pace. But of course, they'd need to be more interesting than the dull dross we got in Quantum Break. Speaking of exploration, I wouldn't object to having Alan Wake 2 be a little more open, like the survival horror "juggernauts" of yesteryear. Whether it's a largely roamable town a'la Silent Hill's titular town, or a more constructed puzzle of an area a'la Resident Evil's Spencer Mansion.
the live action parts were so dull though, like a really bland, unwatchable show.
I really hate the games that try to branch out as shows at the same time, make the game first and THEN think about making a series.

Think of Deadly Premonition, only less janky. If I'm not mistaken, there's a room in the mental hospital that has artwork and a maquette, as a callback to this
I do hope that Alan Wake 2 ends up being like that. That would be delicious.
