Virgin Trains has questioned footage showing Jeremy Corbyn sitting on the floor of a "ram-packed" service.
In a film shown on The Guardian, the Labour leader said he was experiencing a problem "many passengers face every day" on the London to Newcastle train.
But Virgin said CCTV showed Mr Corbyn and his team walking past available seating before starting filming.
It says the crew helped him to a carriage where seats were available and he sat for the rest of his journey.
Mr Corbyn's team has been contacted for comment.
welp
will labour ever get its shit together? Both sides of it are pretty awful
bahahahahahahaha, this is just too funny. Wonder what excuse people will come up with now to defend Corbyn
It's a politician doing a photo op. All politicians do them.
It shouldn't surprise anyone. At first I was curious of why Virginia would release this but considering Jezza wants to make the train service public again. It's not too difficult to see why they're not too friendly.

Part of Corbyn's appeal is that he's seen as 'not like other politicians' though, so I feel like this is pretty bad for him. But I wouldn't bet on it damaging his support among Labour members
Part of Corbyn's appeal is definitely that he's seen as 'not like other politicians' though, so I feel like this is pretty bad for him. Wouldn't count on it damaging his support among Labour members though
Feeling counts over knowing though.
People feel pissed off at the trains, they know Corbyn was fake here.
When it comes to elections or other times that count people will remember that Corbyn was/is congruent with their feelings, they won't remember these headlines too much.
First Great Westerns trains tend to be really overcrowded during holidays and work days, but I've always had a fantastic experience on Virgin trains

The VT from Stoke to Manchester (via Stockport) is terrible in the mornings. If you on in mac you will rarely get a seat.
Personally I'm in favour of renationalising the railways (though I doubt we could afford to buy them now) but this is simply delicious.
Stunt or not his point remains, I have to fucking sit on the floor 90% of the time here in the North
I don't see any unreserved seats in that photo.

We already own the lines but they're rented long term to the train companies. So really we wouldn't have to buy the lines just buy the trains and hire the staff, we couldn't even use the money which would have otherwise been given to private companies through subsidies.
this is fucking embarrassing isn't it
I am no expert, I mean, I have only been commuting by train for the past ten years but generally speaking when seats have those tickets pushed on them like in the picture Branson posted that tends to mean that they are reserved.

Corbyn walked through two carriages apparently, one was full of empty reserved seats and one had empty unreserved seats.

This, it appears all the seats with tickets were reserved

apparently passengers are now disputing virgin's claim
what a shitheap

The Guardian's response (with an extra video of him on the ground):
Virgin’s version was contradicted by a woman who said she had also sat on the floor of the train next to Corbyn, having sent a social media photo of herself and her daughter with the Labour leader.
Ellen – who asked to not be fully named – told the Guardian that Corbyn had seemingly gone through the entire standard-class section of the train but had not been able to find a seat. The 26-year-old, who was with her one-year-old daughter and son, aged six, said she had similarly been unable to find seats.
“He’s not lying,” she said. “When I saw him he was in coach A, right at the front. He hadn’t managed to find a seat in the whole of the train. I was sat on the floor, there was no space for me to get a seat. There were people in every space between every carriage. It was totally overcrowded. They were full of bags and full of people.”
Like Corbyn, the woman was seated about 45 minutes into the trip, after Virgin staff moved people into reserved seats that were unoccupied.
A Virgin Trains spokeswoman said the company would look into whether it could provide CCTV footage of vestibule areas to show whether or not other passengers were sitting in them.
** Cloak Raider got it **

Why aren't they showing a photo of him walking through the area with empty, unreserved seats? I'm not a Corbyn supporter but bandying this photo of him walking through an area with loads of RESERVED seats is really fucking stupid.
I don't see any unreserved seats in that photo.
I can see at least one.
apparently this is corbyn sitting at the back on the same train a little later in the journey?

ok they got him
Every time this man makes a valid point, the media seems to twist it against him. The trains here are getting worse but forget that, let's make this all about Corbyn.

Well, yes. I think that is a reasonable thing to do when a party leader is caught red handed telling a lie.
ok they got him
Those on the train who say they were moved in to unoccupied seats around 45 minutes later actually ties up with the timestamp on Virgin's pictures of Corbyn later in a seat.
I don't think this is as cut and dried and plenty will be more than happy to report. The guy was filmed on the floor by somebody else who didn't have a seat.

he could have easily done this on a train that was actually full and avoided all of this and proved his point better
Wonder why he didn't pick a southwest train at rush hour, there isn't even room to sit on the floor....
Interestingly the original report said there was roughly 20 people sat on the floor due to lack of seats... did they also decide to skip a carriage full of empty seats to make a political point? Something is fucked up

What are you on about? People didn't know he was faking at all. You'd have to be a great cynic to assume that he was faking. He outright lied to people and deliberately misrepresented a problem that literally wasn't there. You are just trying to justify lies due to your own bias.
