this game is the prime example of why no one should pre-order video games
I love it when something may be farmable/exploitable, you immediately get people who hear about it and want to be known for discovering it on reddit, posting tutorials on exactly the things that need to be patched out. This kind of stuff often earns bans for going beyond 'simply exploiting' to tell everyone what to do to cheat the system for a pile of cash and rares

When Bungie fucks up the loot system to the point that people get wrong class gear or not even loot at all then fuck it.
Is this what they meant by the game changes after 20 hours?

It's Bungie's fault for making the loot system so utterly broken and terrible. You very rarely get any loot at all, and even if you do it's often really shitty. It feels like a system where they were intending to sell drop rate boosters for cash, but they scrapped it at the last second.
Don't blame players for exploiting a bad system, fix the bad system. Make it so that players don't need to spend hours shooting at a cave to get anything fun after playing the game for twenty hours.

while that's pretty sad, 'haha they messed up some things' isn't an excuse to do whatever you want.
I remember several incidents where people found an exploit in Guild Wars 2 where they could do something with a new crafting item to turn a small amount of cheap mats into far more valuable items AND get the rare bugged item back in the process, resulting in huuuuge bloats of money for literally nothing. When it got patched, blatant exploiters who did the infringing action 150+ times got temp banned, and the guy who instigated it all publicly either lost his account or took a much longer ban.
Of course, immediately afterwards their forums and facebook were chock full of people claiming that "because the game allowed it, they had the right to do it", really throuwing a shitstorm about it all. It's an unintended effect and they put out a statement they knew it was a bug before patching it out, so you only have yourself to blame for pushing your luck with junk like this.
having said all of that though, a cave of mobs that spawn consistently isn't necessarily a bug, and it's legitimately made to be encountered. Farming it probably won't get you banned because there's no way to really root out exploiters vs bystanders besides watching for huge spikes in pocketchange, but the people putting these things out as "DUDE GO EXPLOIT THIS IT'S SO COOL" are problematic and cause a small scratch to become a huge dent in the chain of progression

continuing- I haven't played the game to experience the loot system myself but I wouldn't be too terribly surprised in this weird shifting age of game development if they were looking to lean into more modern mmo niches and include a cashshop with minor boosters and junk.
It doesn't matter how bad the game is, exploiting a game is exploiting the game. It's 100% your fault if you do shit that is clearly breaking the way it's supposed to work, especially after someone posts a huge video going "WOW MAKE ALL THE MONEY WITH THIS SIMPLE HIDDEN THING!" and it's brought to attention that there's an issue.
Thankfully from what I gather destiny doesn't even have a trading economy right now (though they hired an economy designer recently?), but in games that rely on player trades to earn money and progress by getting the gear you want by selling off random stuff you find (think any mmo with an auction house), exploits like this are beyond serious and ruin the game even further for the legitimate players who can't earn anything off the market.
I don't know, I think if you can do it then you can do it. Within the confines of the game. People who post huge guides are helping this "problematic" bug to go away, because it's a detailed list on how devs can look into fixing their mistakes.
It's a game, it's meant to be fun. Sometimes breaking things is fun.

While I agree this is a good example, two much more prime example are the recent Aliens game and Spore.

Considering doing this gives you no advantage in PvP only PvE I'm not really sure it's that big a problem.
Also there is no trading in this game, so you can't really ruin an economy that doesn't exist.
I snorted heroin and stared at a wall for six days straight.
Still less addictive, and a better use of my time than playing Destiny.

how is it the players fault if the development team did not find that particular bug? how are the developers supposed to know to fix it if nobody exposed it and gave it tons of attention, causing a need for it to be fixed (because everyone will do it)?

this just in: massive game has a situationally triggered bug and devs didn't find exactly that thing
we'll remember this lesson and never have to patch a game ever again
So what's your point supposed to be here dai because it doesn't seem like you have one and you've never actually played the game so
So what's your point supposed to be here dai because it doesn't seem like you have one and you've never actually played the game so
my point is people are acting entitled to use an exploit and it's dumb to do it regardless of the severity, especially after it's brought to light by some idiot youtuber giving away instructions. You can get banned even for minor infractions if the moderation team are zealous enough about it and you're entirely in a position to get it.
of all the people deserving of a ban it's usually the guy who posts instructions publicly because it's only then that it becomes a huge problem in most games. Destiny isn't as big of a deal as others because it has no trade functionality (and as someone mentioned earlier, droprates are borked as it is), but the mentality of "they screwed up so I earned it" is embarrassingly self entitled and you have no room to complain if it eventually gets you nipped
Yeah but the game doesn't even have any way to give any items to anyone so it's not really that big of a deal (you edited)
But yeah people exposing "exploits" and such usually get banned I think they have to expect it. But if you ban everyone who has done it then they would lose half their player base in the blink of an eye. I mean farm spots aren't exactly new and there's plenty of others in the game. This one only has the bonus of you not having to move
I love it when something may be farmable/exploitable, you immediately get people who hear about it and want to be known for discovering it on reddit, posting tutorials on exactly the things that need to be patched out. It's not so much exploiting as it is playing the game's own mechanics efficiently. Maybe if Strikes actually rewarded you for your time and effort, properly, then people would do Strikes instead of farm a cave which gives you more reward for the time you put in. Diablo did it right when they fixed their game. "Make the game rewarding for those who play when they do play" Destiny doesn't do that. The cave should have the spawns reduced to a normal rate, and loot drops for Missions and Strikes need to be brought way the fuck up. I want to see a guaranteed blue with a higher chance of purple drop from Mini and End strike bosses, not just one at the very end of a hard fought 35 minutes, gear in Destiny is too static for that. (I have the absolute best gear until I get legendaries. It's a sort of wall, and everything that drops is the exact same, or a worse different part of another set) I want to see Everyone in PvP get rewarded. Let it still be complete RNG, I don't give a shit, but giving idlers something and those who pull the entire team's weight nothing even in victory is horse shit
TL;DR: Rewards do not scale to effort, but should.

If anyone gets banned for exploiting a good farming spot then Bungie is fucking retarded. People do it in other loot games all the time, Diablo 3 being a prime example of a game that has had tons of loot exploits which Blizzard just patched out as soon as they could.
Man this farming spot thing is hilarious, you can literally just afk on it and you'll get drops, exp, and kill credit from other people farming it.
I really hope they patch this.
