It started in Sydney in 1992, spread to Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth by 1993, with the Gold Coast and Auckland joining in 1994. As of 2003, it has featured seven or eight stages (depending on the venue) accommodating popular contemporary rock music, electronic music, mainstream international acts and local acts. Since its inception in 1992, Big Day Out has attracted a large range of artists, with headlining acts including Nirvana, Muse, Violent Femmes, Iggy Pop and the Stooges, The Ramones, The Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, The Offspring, Rage Against the Machine, The Prodigy, Marilyn Manson, Foo Fighters, Blink-182, Metallica, Tool, Coldplay, The Killers, Nine Inch Nails, System of a Down, Neil Young and Red Hot Chili Peppers. The annual festival has also been a launching platform for many Australian artists, with various acts performing on the tour multiple times, such as Silverchair, Powderfinger, You Am I, The Living End, Jebediah, Grinspoon, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and Wolfmother.
So is anyone going to it next year?
The first official line-up for the 2010 installment was posted on the Big Day Out website just before midnight on the 28th September 2009. The first line-up is as follows Muse Powderfinger Lily Allen Eskimo Joe Groove Armada Grinspoon The Mars Volta Ladyhawke Dizzee Rascal Karnivool Peaches The Temper Trap Kasabian Midnight Juggernauts Rise Against Magic Dirt Mastodon Lisa Mitchell The Horrors Bluejuice Calvin Harris Kisschasy The Decemberists Tame Impala Girl Talk
Looks pretty good for the first lineup. I'm going mainly because of Muse, Mars Volta, and Karnivool. You have to get your tickets fast though, the Sydney one's sold out in 3 minutes.
Whyd you put this under drugs?
Whyd you put this under drugs?
I dunno, I couldn't find any other icon worth putting there. And there have been drugs at the Big Day Out almost every year. Last year someone died from them. Anyway... :350:
I'm going to go if I can get some friends to come as well. Pumped for the same bands as you + Rise Against.
I just bought my tickets lastnight at exactly midnight (Perth) So yeah, I think there's still tickets available for Perth, Adelaide, and Auckland.
Got my ticket in Perth, it's sold out now.
I went last time but I don't like any of those bands except powderfinger
