I'm going to be going to an area with an IKEA near it soon, and I need a new chair. My current one has exactly no padding on my ass, and its really uncomfortable to sit in. My max price is $200 USD. Any recomendations on good ones? I am going to be traveling in a vehicle that can carry it back home, so I don't need any shipping or shit like that.
I know your budget is pretty high but for anyone that's looking for a cheap swivel chair from ikea I'd suggest this one:

$200 USD is the absolute max I'd be willing to spend. I'd rather not spend that much.
Screw the IKEA chairs, try out Staples (they've got some really kickass ones in the UK stores so I'd imagine the US ones are too)

walk in
sit on chairs
walk out with chair
sorted
dont buy chairs online, just go and sit in them at stores. (like above)

Supporting the back of the chair using the plastic arms like that is an insane design - I've broken 2 chairs designed like that within a year.
Plus you can't lean back without the bit you sit on angling back too, which is uncomfortable as hell

That would make it easier. I live sort of close to a staples. And I didn't know they had them in the uk :v:
IKEA chairs aren't really comfy as they look.

And they fall apart after a couple of years. Splash out on a decent chair and it will last you. Just... stay away from ikea...
Buy a real office chair. It'll last you at least ten years. Look at bankruptcy-sales for great chairs for low prices.
As a chair expert, here's a chair advice.
Go to a store that specializes in office chairs. Yes it'll be more expensive and it'll also be more comfortable. And I suggest you get something that you like and is at least mildly ergonomic. Having a bad back isn't worth the 50$ you'd save
I hope you chairish my advice

These chairs, forgot where got it, are shit.
My elbows are fucked up. The nerves have actually moved from using it. It sometimes, started to do it more often, hurts when I straighten my arms.

And yeah that's a bag of two-three year old fireworks.

And this thread open on the screen.
Don't buy one online is my advice, go to a store and sit on chairs.
Staples do immensely nice, albeit expensive chairs, but you get what you pay for and they come with 5 years warranty.
Office Depot.

get chairs from there
I've been using the same 20 euro Ikea chair for 6 years now, 5+ hours a day...
Seriously if you could see it you'd burst out laughing mainly because it doesn't even look like a chair anymore :v:

Sorry for off-threading, but I demand a picture now.
Also, I have to disagree about a chair where the bit you sit on angles back being uncomfortable. I'm using one like that, and can't complain.
As a person in on my third ikea chair, buy something proper. It's what I'll be doing once this finally breaks.

Fuck Ikea.
I have a great chair I've been with about 8 years haven't ever had another chair. I love it, I can't stand other chairs now. Choose carefully my friend, you must love and care for your chair.
Make sure you can adjust the chair in every possible way imaginable.
It's one of the most important features on a chair.
The cushion on my chair is so flat I might aswell be sitting on plastic. Also the back cushion, when you hit it, all dust and skin flies off it :(
Get a couch. Much better. Fuck chairs.
pro tip: dont pick the squishiest padded chair that you can find
its really comfortable for about 6 months and then once the padding is essentially gone youll wish you had actual ergonomic support
Be careful of the ones with cheapo leather, last one I had started cracking and falling apart within 2 years

Yep. The vinyl on one of the arm rests on my chair (was about $130 from OfficeDepot) just started cracking and I can't stop picking at it. I've had the chair since December of 2009.
Dumpster dive.
I don't know where both my chairs came from but they kick ass.
My chair is made of wooden paneling with zero padding.
My ass has literally changed shape to fit with the curvature of the chair - which is nice because I apparently have a good ass now.

Something like that, except falling apart.
I have no problems with my spine that I know of. I find the really "comfortable" chairs with a bunch of padding and ergonomic support uncomfortable.
Never understood the need for a fancy office chair. I could personally use any chair at all.

crossposting from desk thread, i have no idea where i got it but if you see one buy it immediately. Still as soft as the day it was purchased about 6 years ago.

I've used wooden dining table chairs for all of my life until about a year and a half ago. I don't think I'll be able to go back. The butt-sliding factor was what bugged me the most.
I bought one of these a week ago or so from IKEA:

So far I think it's awesome but my last chair was totally fucked up and my back was aching after every time I sat on it so maybe my standards aren't particularly high. Thought it was worth the approx. 700SEK/75 Euros I got it for. And I'm not really willing to spend much more on a single chair.
