Armed police stormed pop star Miley Cyrus's house in the US, after receiving an emergency call about a possible kidnapping and shooting.
Los Angeles police and rescue crews surrounded the fomer Hannah Montana star's house in Hollywood on Wednesday, while helicopters circled the property.
But they soon discovered there was no one in the building.
Police say the incident may have been part of a trend of prank calls, which has been dubbed "swatting".
Swatting is when an anonymous call is made to get a team of police to storm a building or an innocent person's home.
Police told ABC News that such incidents were on the rise - even though false calls to emergency services are a crime in California.
An investigation is underway into the incident at Cyrus's home.
Police said they were tracking the caller. If found, the person will be prosecuted, and could face up to a year in jail.
Cyrus, the 19-year old actress and singer, is the daughter of American country star, Billy Ray Cyrus - who had a worldwide hit with Achy Breaky Heart in 1992.
She gained worldwide fame when she was cast as Miley Stewart, the lead role in Disney's Hannah Montana.
In 2010, Cyrus was ranked number thirteen on Forbes' Celebrity 100.
This shit isn't funny.
it's shit like this that is going to fuck over someone in a serious incident. time spent trying to verify that it is a real threat could be spent actually responding
i don't like a celebrity so i'm going to send a police raid on her home, that'll show them!!!
shit heads.
The boy who cried wolf comes to mind

except the police would still come, but just shoot EVERYONE
I just had a weird idea. What if you were planning on robbing someone, so you sent a ton of calls in using different phones and voices saying that that particular house was being robbed. Then eventually they just ignore you so you rob it and NO POLICE
They advertise this on certain websites on the deep web. Its like 1,000$, and someone will call for you. They call directly to a swat team, so they skip the police procedures i thinlk
.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't find this somewhat hilarious.
what if you found two houses next to each other, both between two different police departments, then call swat from each department to the houses and say that there's a robbery/murder/something being committed by a group of armed men dressed up as policemen
actually, considering how much of a shithead she and her family is
yeah I think it is pretty fucking funny
that being said it's also a a big waste of the cops time

That or you just send the police and swat to some random persons house and then go rob somebody else house.
There was a case of swatting on one of our province's lakes not too long ago. The guy that sent the call in got arrested though.
This particular case in the OP is pretty funny to be honest, but why?

The police actually raided the house to arrest her for doing this movie, and made this up when she wasn't there

Once you have the numbers and the equipment, it's free to make the calls.
