Charleston, South Carolina (CNN)A jury has found Dylann Roof guilty of all 33 federal charges he faced after last year's massacre at a historically black church in Charleston, South Carolina. In the next phase of the trial, scheduled to begin in January, jurors will weigh whether Roof, 22, should be sentenced to death or spend the rest of his life in prison.
http://www.cnn.com/2016/12/15/us/dylann-roof-murder-trial/index.html
Well, yeah. I hope he spends life in prison.
I genuinely would say that the death sentence may be more fitting for this since rehab or any type of leniency is not an option.
While it's a relief that this terrorist has been brought to justice, it saddens me knowing that the families of the victims he killed will never be the same again. Nothing can return their loved ones to them.
The death penalty arguments will be much more interesting. I've yet to see any convincing evidence that he didn't understand what he was doing or somehow didn't have the mental state to be less than 100% liable for his actions.
He will spend life in prison. We have not executed anyone since 2011 due to the state being unable to acquire all three drugs that form the cocktail used in a lethal injection. Even if we got all the drugs needed he would spend over 30+ Years in jail due to the queue and how long it usually takes to execute anyone.
I genuinely would say that the death sentence may be more fitting for this since rehab or any type of leniency is not an option.
Agreed. Fucker needs to burn.
Agreed. Fucker needs to burn.
Well, I wouldn't take such a brazen approach to it like that. But, there's no reason to keep him in jail for life at the age of 22 for likely another 50+ years.
Agreed. Fucker needs to burn.
It's not healthy for one to be so blood thirsty. I suggest you seek guidance.
Agreed. Fucker needs to burn.
Why?
I hope in prison, he learns the errors of his ways and becomes an outspoken critic against racism and the US penal system and does everything he can to make up for his crimes and become a better person.
Why?
Because he intentionally killed 9 people just because of their race? I dont really get what you are asking
Revenge fantasies are unhealthy; I think it's sufficient that he's spending life in prison for his crime
Revenge fantasies are unhealthy; I think it's sufficient that he's spending life in prison for his crime
Because life in prison with no possibility for parole is somehow different? He's still going to die in the prison system. It would either be him dying at 50 or 80.
Because he intentionally killed 9 people just because of their race? I dont really get what you are asking
No he means what will it accomplish. Although seeing the answer is obviously nothing apart from 'justice' I don't expect a reasonable answer.
Revenge fantasies are unhealthy; I think it's sufficient that he's spending life in prison for his crime
a revenge fantasy is one thing another is all of that money spent going into keeping this guy alive to do what absolutely nothing in a solid box?
Life in prison with no possibility for parole is probably worse than death imo.
Life in prison with no possibility for parole is probably worse than death imo.
Also less efficient in some cases. Who cares how punishing the sentence is if it doesn't do anything to rehabilitate the person?

It's an entirely healthy reaction to feel disgust towards Roof because of what he did, and it's equally healthy to want to see him be punished for it. It's part of wanting to affirm the value of innocent life, being able to distinguish right from wrong, and having a sense of empathy for the victims and a desire for justice against the perpetrator. You're fine, Faze. Go about your life as usual.
a revenge fantasy is one thing another is all of that money spent going into keeping this guy alive to do what absolutely nothing in a solid box?
Usually death penalties actually cost more.
Don't know where all this "it's unhealthy" shtick is coming from. If someone murdered a family member of mine I'd be more than happy to see them slowly tortured to death in public most likely, doesn't mean I should get what I want.
I think it's more the terminology Faze used sounding very bloodthirsty.
Might be, but even if he'd put it in more subtle terms, you'd still have the people who are too sensitive about that stuff complaining and ignoring why it makes sense.
Might be, but even if he'd put it in more subtle terms, you'd still have the people who are too sensitive about that stuff complaining and ignoring why it makes sense.
The irony is some of them are being sensitive to faze being sensitive. It's just not a healthy mindset, I think is what they're getting at. Exercising control of your emotions and having restraint is good and important.
I'm sorry but if you want someone dead, you have problems. End of. Roof has problems. Agent Faze has problems. They both need to be addressed.
I'm sorry but if you want someone dead, you have problems. End of. Roof has problems. Agent Faze has problems. Sorry.
watch out buddy, there's a crack in that pedestal you've placed yourself on [editline]15th December 2016[/editline] you just compared a white supermacist mass murdering terrorist who killed 9 innocent people to a facepunch user
It's sad when people become that out of touch with reality.
I'm sorry but if you want someone dead, you have problems. End of. Roof has problems. Agent Faze has problems. They both need to be addressed.
I'm 100% against the death penalty but it's not exactly hard to empathise with people wishing death on a monster like Dylann Roof and understand where they're coming from.
It's sad when people become that out of touch with reality.
So we agree that agent faze should seek help then.
I genuinely would say that the death sentence may be more fitting for this since rehab or any type of leniency is not an option.
lol let him rot in a cell for the rest of his life. Much worse punishment than death. Besides, killing him would just make him a martry to the rest of his garbage kind.
So we agree that agent faze should seek help then.
No, because he isn't a mass murderer, and he's not unjustly wishing death on anybody. He's hoping that a guy who murdered 9 innocent people for no reason will be punished for his crime. There's no reason to seek help here. Again, it's an entirely healthy reaction to feel disgust towards Roof because of what he did, and it's equally healthy to want to see him be punished for it. It's part of wanting to affirm the value of innocent life, being able to distinguish right from wrong, and having a sense of empathy for the victims and a desire for justice against the perpetrator.
