• I can't delete certain files...

Yes, I know Vista is shit, but I don't have Windows 7 installed just yet, and this is something that annoys me. Sometimes, I'll download a folder containing an executable that doesn't work, then try to delete it, but even though I am the administrator, it says I need permission to delete the folder. The first time it happened, I deleted the individual components of the folder until I found out that the files causing this were Truetype Font Files. It probably is a protected filetype, which is understandable if they exist in important places in the hard drive, but then why would it let me download the files and then bar me from deleting them again? Ranting aside, I used google and came up with no results on how to enable deletion of these files, except maybe some really long and complex hackish method that only works for XP or 32 bit or whatever. I'd quite like to be able to delete anything I want on my computer, and not have to pick out the sticky bits of faulty programs in order to delete them (I also really want to delete my recycle bin, but that can wait). Does anyone know anything? tl;dr: Read it you twat.
Vista isn't shit. Use unlocker as wabash posted.
No I don't think I will you twat.
Wow. Just... Wow.
Go download unlocker. http://www.filehippo.com/download_unlocker/tech/
Yes, I know Vista is shit
Vista isn't shit, it's just your prejudice against it. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/mojave-experiment/
Vista isn't shit, it's just your prejudice against it. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/mojave-experiment/
No, no. Windows Vista is shit. It is missing a lot of shit that makes it run faster. :gibs:
No, no. Windows Vista is shit. It is missing a lot of shit that makes it run faster. :gibs:
What's it missing?
It is missing a lot of shit that makes it run faster.
logic error
No, no. Windows Vista is shit. It is missing a lot of shit that makes it run faster. :gibs:
I read this as "I'm a dumbass, so I think that because vista isn't 7 it's shit"
I read this as "I'm a dumbass, so I think that because vista isn't 7 it's shit"
how funny, i read it that way too.
No, no. Windows Vista is shit. It is missing a lot of shit that makes it run faster. :gibs:
Specify, if you're going to bash Vista at least have some logic behind it.
Specify, if your going to bash Vista at least have some logic behind it.
Most people bash on Vista because of UAC yet they don't know they can easily turn it completly off.
Most people bash on Vista because of UAC yet they don't know they can easily turn it completly off.
No most people do it to be "cool" because everyone else is doing it.
Go download unlocker. http://www.filehippo.com/download_unlocker/tech/
IIRC unlocker doesn't support 64-bit, I recommend LockHunter.
IIRC unlocker doesn't support 64-bit, I recommend LockHunter.
this, works much better anyway imo.
I didn't mean to start a flame war, I just thought the general consensus even among windows users was that Vista sucked (Microsoft even announced that it was a mistake). Sorry if I offended anyone. Anyway, you really need to download extra software just to delete what you download on vista? Can't anyone see how flawed that is?
I just thought the general consensus even among windows users was that Vista sucked
It probably is, but we're not your average Windows users.

Can't anyone see how flawed that is?
it generally only happens on files with forbidden characters in their name. does the same on XP.
Because Windows Vista is slower than 7 due to 7 having speed improvements, not that everybody has bought new PCs after Vista was released.
Most people bash on Vista because of UAC yet they don't know they can easily turn it completly off.
I don't see why you would turn UAC off
I don't see why you would turn UAC off
cuz the internet told you to.
UAC is great.
Most people bash on Vista because of UAC yet they don't know they can easily turn it completly off.
I know about UAC and all the problems it causes (can't save files in games/programs, installers don't work, etc), and I always have it off.
I know about UAC and all the problems it causes (can't save files in games/programs, installers don't work, etc), and I always have it off.
I have no idea what your talking about. I have never run into a situation where UAC has gotten in my way. You're probably having those problems because you aren't the administrator of the computer.
I've had far more problems with Vista than I've had sofar with Win7. Being generally slow, dumb tool placements and alot of interaction design errors. I will never have Vista on any of my computers. It's either XP or Win7.
I have no idea what your talking about. I have never run into a situation where UAC has gotten in my way. You're probably having those problems because you aren't the administrator of the computer.
I am the administrator, read my original post!
I know about UAC and all the problems it causes (can't save files in games/programs, installers don't work, etc), and I always have it off.
Never had any of those problems. If you turn UAC off, any executable that is ran, with or without you knowing, on your computer can do whatever it wants to your entire system, including deleting, replacing, and infecting system files. Unless you can give me a solid example of one time you actually had a problem with it, I'm still going to say that you should NEVER even consider turning it off.
I have disabled UAC because it annoys me and slows down my work. What I find most annoying about it is that it often “hides” in the background so I have to select it on the taskbar or ALT+TAB to accept or decline whatever it asks about. I have also often experienced problems with installing drivers (namely nvidia drivers) or software that requires drivers to work. Most of these problems can be solved by running the installers as administrator but sometimes that is not an option. For a long period of time Steam did not support UAC and could fail to load some games (Savage 2 is at least one) though this issue have been fixed. Another issue I have with UAC is that it limits CMD if you forget to run it as administrator, which is annoying when you try to guide someone through something over the phone. Now to make myself clear: I do not wish to bash UAC or say that it is useless in any way. I fully understand the use for it and how it greatly improves security. But to me UAC feels like a huge annoyance like if my mouse was broken and I couldn’t right click.
