Legislation banning full-face Muslim veils in public spaces has gone into effect in Austria. The government says the law, which says faces must be visible from the hairline to the chin, is about protecting Austrian values. It comes ahead of a general election later this month which could see gains by the far-right Freedom Party. Muslim groups have condemned the law, saying just a tiny minority of Austrian Muslims wear full-face veils. The law bans Muslim veils such as the burka or niqab, but also places restrictions on the use of medical face masks and clown makeup. An estimated 150 women wear the full burka in Austria but tourism officials have expressed fears that the measures will also deter visitors from the Gulf. France and Belgium introduced a burka ban in 2011 and a similar measure is currently going through the Dutch parliament. German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said that the full-face veil should be prohibited in Germany "wherever it is legally possible". The UK does not ban the niqab or burka.
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-41457427?ocid=socialflow_facebook&ns_mchannel=social&ns_campaign=bbcnews&ns_source=facebook Also, take note:
The law bans Muslim veils such as the burka or niqab, but also places restrictions on the use of medical face masks and clown makeup.
Took a while before people woke up to the real threat.
Never forget the 2016 clown invasion.
Speaking of clowns be prepared for even more this halloween
Speaking of clowns be prepared for even more this halloween
This time, in full IT style
Telling women to put on the veil is bad, forcing them to remove it is bad as well. It's all about women's choice.
I get why you'd ban these at protests (Was this legal?) and sensitive areas, but directly enforcing any kind of general dress code in public is strange to say the least.
The law bans Muslim veils such as the burka or niqab, but also places restrictions on the use of medical face masks and clown makeup.
How am I going to go on the pull in Salzburg now, you bastards?
So they made a law to discriminate against 150 people claiming to know better than them Okay then
This seems incredibly pointless tbh. Like, they've made a law that targets 0.0017 percent of the population to protect their values
Why don't you just let them choose and not force them?
This is one of those laws we look back on in 100 years and make fun of because people will say "it's illegal to wear clown makeup in Austria" like some weird British laws. The whole burka thing is a weird grey area though...
It's a tough issue and one I've flip flopped on for quite a while, it's another case of the culture not wanting to buy what we are selling them, but this is about public security risks than it is about equality, in which case it's entirely up to Austria if they wish to piss off the small demographic (for now at least).
I get that covering your face in banks or other public places might cause broblems
Telling women to put on the veil is bad, forcing them to remove it is bad as well. It's all about women's choice.
at the same time, allowing groups to dictate women having to be faceless in a democratic egalitarian society is itself bad
This isn't about security. This isn't about the liberties of those women. This is sorta about culture and values. But the elephant in the room is the elections in 2 weeks. This is a loud bell ringing by Mr. Kurz, reminding the people of Austria who truly is willing to defend them against the invasive immigrants. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/10/01/austrias-burka-ban-comes-force-prohibiting-face-veils-public/ Votes, this is what it is about. [editline]3rd October 2017[/editline] [t]https://i.imgur.com/Awva8NE.png[/t] FPÖ -> Far right party ÖVP -> Your regular Center-Right Christian Democrats, or so they were before 31-year old prodigy Sebastian Kurz took helm last year. Somebody is stealing somebody's voters ever since.
SPÖ just lost as many voters according to your graph (and other parties too), so I wouldn't say their new supporters are just ex-FPÖ voters (if that was what you are implying). Besides, would that be such a tragedy nowadays, when some are constantly worried about the rise of the far right in Europe? ÖVP is fine, and Kurz is a very sensible politican from what I've read from him.

This is a reason to be even more worried about the far-right, when they take over entire mainstream parties.
