It was early in the morning Feb. 13 when a police officer spotted John Boy — a black labrador retriever — running around near County Line Road in Germantown, Wisconsin.
“He stood there and barked a little bit, then I rolled down my window and called to him. Then he wagged his tail and got more friendly until I got out of my car and then he ran a little bit,” said Officer Jeff Gonzalez, with the Germantown Police Department.
It seemed like John Boy had a plan for the officer.
“He pointed me in the right direction,” Gonzalez said.
John Boy led the officer up the street to a house where his owner, Krystal, was laying unresponsive, slumped over in a chair outside her front door, still in her pajamas.
“To be honest with you, I thought she was dead and when I went up, she was very cold to the touch. Her lips were blue, but I was able to determine she was breathing and had a pulse,” Gonzalez said.
He called for help and his partner came running. Together, they brought Krystal inside, stabilized her and rushed her to a hospital.
But the dog was barking! Clearly the right response from the cop would have been to shoot it!
Seriously though, I am impressed that the dog managed to communicate with the officer in such a clear way. The cop must have had some experience with dogs before because I think he could've simply sent a message to the police department asking if someone were looking for a dog. I hope the owner lives to appreciate her dog's heroism.
A cat would never do something like that.

Wow, you mean that the behavior of two different species of animal is different? Huh. I never would have guessed.

Cats have, in fact, done the exact same thing.
A cat would never do something like that.
Not all dogs would have done this either.
Apparently if I die after a couple of days my cats will eat me.
A cat would never do something like that.
Considering dogs were domesticated naturally alongside humans from wolves because they had a mutually beneficial relationship with us vs cats being horrifying lone predators that we forcefully domesticated it's amazing that any cats will protect their owners :v:

It has happened a couple of times though...
