Hey guys, I decided to play some Alien Swarm today, and as soon as I launched it, I got a BSOD.
After my PC restarted, I did a trojan remover scan, NOD32 and Ad-Aware scan.
Nothing.
I launched it again and the same happened.
What the hell?
Please help!
What was the error on the bsod?
Specs please.
We'll need your pc specs and the error the BSOD reported if you want us to help.
The BSOD disappears as soon as it shows up.
And my specs are:
Windows XP
4 GB OF RAM
AMD Athlon 3.2 GHZ dual core CPU
Nvidia GeForce 6600GT 126MB (or so)
EDIT:
After a certain wait, I didn't get a BSOD crash.
I'd still like to know possible reasons.
To stop the bsod disappearing, you have to turn on a setting in BIOS which says something like "shut down pc on error". Also are you running the latest video drivers?
Alienswarm runs on the portal2 branch of source, people have reported lots of crashes with certain cards.
It might be due to your card (6600gt) which might just be too weak to run this.
Try forcing it to window via launch options (Rightclick alienswarm in steam, launch options, type in "-windowed" without the ")
See if you still a bsod after that.
To stop your bsod from disappearing and your machine automatically restarting do the following:

Right click 'My Computer'

Choose Properties

Click the Advanced tab

Under Startup and Recovery, click 'Settings'

Ensure that "write an event to the system log" and "Send an administrative alert" are checked and "Automatically restart" is unchecked.

Click OK
The next time your machine bsods, write down as much as you can/take a photo and report back.
Guys, everything is okay now.
The BSODs are gone, it appears my computer got a little... Overheated.

That might be the problem. Actually. I think a 6600GT Isn't at all enough to run Alien Swarm.
No it isn't, but my computer runs it fine.
I play Left 4 Dead 2 on medium graphics with about 60 fps.
..Your graphics card is nowhere near enough to run either. Seriously. No joke. You need atleast a 7000 series to run alien swarm. Your card is outdated by MORE than a few years.

How does your graphics card even survive?!
well, it`s a 1 day ago thread but i`m having same problem here while trying to play alien swarm and i don`t know what to do. maybe overheating or memory leaks. it happens after i play one map. as the game starts second map or a little bit later, bsod appears. and because of that i just played a few first maps still. ):
pc spec:
windows7 (64)
3gb ram
amd athlon 64 x2 dual core processor 4800+

I play Alien Swarm with good settings and good framerate with a Radeon X800. I also play most Source games on High with it.
