• HP Mini won't read Windows 7 Disc.

My girlfriend has a HP Mini and it came with Windows 7 Starter which is absolute balls as you probably know. So I have a Windows 7 Ultimate disc (let's just say I have a spare copy), and I put it in the drive and it doesn't recognise it, either when booting to disc or when the computer is on, it doesn't see the disc. Yet, the disc is recognised perfectly fine on my computer. She uses a portable DVD Drive (LG GP08) which reads any other discs she puts in (DVD videos, BF2, Burned music CDs etc.). Does anyone know what the problem is? She installed the drivers on it and everything, it just can't read this W7 disc. I know it's possible to install from a flash drive, but I'd prefer to use a disc. Thank you.
Is it set before the HDD in the boot order in the BIOS?
I have no idea... some restriction in the BIOS?

Pull up the boot selection screen, if there's one, and select the DVD drive.

-holy fuck, portable DVD drives!-
well, the problem is that the hp mini doesn't have a dvd drive
Extract the contents of the DVD (or ISO) onto a flash drive or SD Card and set the BIOS to boot from the device it's on.
oh i missed this
She uses a portable DVD Drive (LG GP08) which reads any other discs she puts in (DVD videos, BF2, Burned music CDs etc.). Does anyone know what the problem is?
oh i missed this the laptop might not support booting from a usb drive
Every computer since the late 90's has this feature, standard.
Every computer since the late 90's has this feature, standard.
Not every computer, though a good majority of them. Have you tested this "Spare Copy" in another computer recently? Try putting another bootable disk in the drive that is confirmed working. It may just be acting up.
Tried installing Windows on my HP mini by using a USB drive, that did not work at all.

I'll try boot into a linux distro next time and if that doesn't work I'll use a flash drive.
Managed to get it to work. Used a flash drive instead, I guess the BIOS couldn't read the disc off a portable USB DVD drive. Thanks for the help.
