So, let's get to this. Today, I wanted to launch Skype as always. It did not launch. Instead, it started configuring as if it was preparing to install, then doing jackshit. For about half an hour. Then it said "Could not create Phone folder in the Skype directory, you suck". I tried everything, defragmented, checked for viruses (It could not properly search the folder, you'll see later why) and all that. Whenever I tried to open the Skype folder in program Files, Windows Manager promptly crashed. Once it did open it, the Phone folder was there. I tried to Uninstall Skype, thinking that maybe a reinstall would solve this problem. After about half an hour of configuring (or whatever) again, it spat out the same message. (Why it wanted to CREATE the Phone folder for the uninstall is a mistery.) I decided to fuck everything and just manually delete the folder. Maybe that solves it. NOOOOPE. After almost an hour of fucking about with the deletion, it spat out the 0x8007045d error code (Some I/O device problem). I googled it, but all I found was people having trouble with moving files from computer to computer and file system formats, but how a folder sitting in program Files that worked perfectly would suddenly go apeshit like this is beyond me. My computer's also been a bit slow lately, if that is relevant. Oh, and Google Chrome's stuff apparently also disappeared, because when i tried to launch it, it told me it can't file the files, but I did not check out THAT yet. I spent enough time for today being pissed. So please, more tech-savvy users of Facepunch, help me solve this. I don't want to be unable to use Skype, and I'm worried if this is just the first sign of a larger-scale problem with my disk.
...Why does my post say I posted from XP? Anyways, please help. This problem is really annoying. [editline]3rd October 2011[/editline] Addendum: When the defrag gets to the Skype files while scanning, it basically stops everything on the computer for a couple minutes. Then it carries on.
Run a check disk.
Will do.
