• Buying speakers

I was deciding between posting this in fast threads (as it's a question thread), but thought I'd get better responses here. I'm looking to buy some new speakers for my desktop PC. I make music, and listen to a lot too, so I'm looking for high quality sound. I don't know whether to go for low-end monitor speakers, as I've heard they can be fatiguing to listen to for a extended periods of time. One option I was considering is the Audioengine A5 speakers. http://audioengineusa.com/Store/Audioengine-5 They seem like high quality computer speaks that would do a good job at sound reproduction when I'm making music. My budget is £200. At a stretch, £250. Let me know if the Audioengines are good, or if you have any other recommendations. Cheers.
The ironic thing about monitor speakers is that they shouldn't be high quality. The most popular models have high mids, and audio engineers like this because they can find problems in the mix a lot easier. It also allows ensures them that the mix will also sound well on crappy speakers. So what I'm saying is that if you want to get monitors that you're not going to get high quality music, rather you are going to get speakers that show the flaws of music much better.
I thought monitor speakers had as flat frequency response as possible?
Been reading a book about mixing and everything and there is a pretty long portion about monitors. The author goes over some of the really popular ones and why they were popular. The author states that you really can't base a pair of monitor speakers off of any of their specs like frequency response because there are many more factors in the sound and also that a lot of the specs aren't really that reliable. I did say something a bit incorrect, monitor speakers don't have higher level mids, but more defined mids. The most popular monitor speaker, the Yamaha NS10s got so popular for this reason.
Thread closed, speakers are coming tomorrow in the post.
Did you end up getting the A5's?
Indeed I did.
