Oh shit.
:britain:
A sailor angered by the defence cuts maybe? Seems more likely given that he started shooting once councilmen were aboard.
Holy shit
Some things in here don't react well to bullets

(it was the cook)
Why would they have access to weapons in a submarine, wouldn't they be in a locked locker of some sort?

Do you really think that defense cuts would cause this? sweet jesus.

Presumably crewmen would have the key.

they would unless he had some sort of clearance, or maybe he busted into it
fucking ninja
...doesn't the HMS Astute have a reputation for having horrible things happen?

Crashed into a sandbar in October :/
But a shooting like this is unheard of.

I was REALLY surprised when I saw the article earlier, this really is something that either never happens or is just not reported. I assume its because of the sort of people that become submariners.
This may sound like a bit of a weird question, But did the bottle break when this was christened?
Now this may be mean to say but I was sorta looking forward to a situation like, "The Hunt for Red October"...
oh no,
:smith: more unnecessary death
This is what happens when you give an idiot a gun.

Nah, if someone shot the cook they'd give him a medal.
How the fuck did this happen?
I mean, how in hell did it get a weapon in such a closed space such as a submersible...

Well im guessing they kept weapons on board incase of a possible breach by an enemy, and this nutter must of just gone mad and shot two people.
R.I.P to that poor submariner. What a way to go, not dying in action but shot by your crewmate.
Still, I can't even fathom the guy's motives.
Woutsie rated everyone dumb for no reason.

what else is new
This happened ages ago (As in hours) I'm surprised there was no thread earlier.
Anyway I wonder why he went crazy.
Well im guessing they kept weapons on board incase of a possible breach by an enemy, and this nutter must of just gone mad and shot two people.
But they were locked away and you need permission from the Captain/Firearms officer to bear arms on any Royal Navy ship...
Oh shit oh fuck I live like 20 minutes away from Southampton, this was on South Today this evening
The berth the sub is in is the same one the Cunard ships dock in (think Queen Mary, Elizabeth, Victoria etc), the Hythe - Southampton ferry runs straight past it. I've got some pictures of it somewhere but I can't find them.

If I remember correctly, stuff like this was bannable, wasn't it?
More of an explanation to the motives behind the shooting would be nice. Possibly a disgruntled sailor? Not had enough gay sex?
