• A Macbook Pro 15" For My Birthday!

Hey guys, I'm getting this baby for my birthday. So I was wondering what the pros and cons of it are? I know I could just go to the apple store for my questions, but I'd rather ask people who actually own it. Anyway;
QUESTIONS

What is the biggest pro of the Macbook Pro?
What is the biggest con?
Will this thing overheat and burn down my house?
Does it run Windows 7 (Via bootcamp) at native speed while playing games?

I'll be using it mainly for gaming and on-the-move-graphics design. Thanks, guys.
Boot Camp runs on the metal, so it won't be an issue. Biggest pro? It's the pro line of Macs. Think of it what you will - it'll last you for a while and will have crazy resale value. They've just refreshed so you're in time, too. Biggest con? Likely to be heating. It won't be as bad if you have an i5, but Apple's been lazy in this regard.
1. It's gorgeous with great battery life nad actually half decent performance 2. USB ports are too close together and could do with atleast 3 rather than just two 3. They can get pretty hot, but it does have a capable fan it in it, so most likely not. 4. Yes.
I heard the i5 models went over a 100 degrees Celsius in a benchmark.
And believe me, Photoshop on OS X needs something a little more beefier than a WhiteBook. Perhaps the biggest bottleneck is your graphics card; the 330M has always been middle range-ish for me.
lol using a macbook for gaming
There are pretty much just two downsides, heat issues and the price. Since the latter doesn't appear to be an issue for you, it'll just be the heat. Oh, and a tip. If you or yourself go to university, purchase it through them with the discount and if it's the same as the UK, you'll get an extended 3 year warranty via AppleCare included gratis, too. Mine's under warranty until September 2012 thanks to this.
lol using a macbook for gaming
he's given a macbook pro when you're given lemons, give everyone else a cup of piss to "share" and drink lemonade

Mine's only under warranty for two years, but I guess that's enough. I don't go to uni and neither does anyone in my immediate family, even though the AppleCare thing is the same here. What do you mean by the Photoshop thing?
CS4 bumped the requirements up crazy; I'm currently on a '07 Al iMac and it gobbles up memory and processor time like gangbusters compared to CS3 on Rosetta.
The heat issues are usually solvable by downloading one of those fanspeed apps.
CS4 bumped the requirements up crazy; I'm currently on a '07 Al iMac and it gobbles up memory and processor time like gangbusters compared to CS3 on Rosetta.
Ah well, not like I'm going to game and use CS4 at the same time.
Seeing as its free, Yay! If your had to pay for it, Nay! Install Win7 on it
The heat issues aren't serious. It's nothing to worry about. Think of all the people that own macs, I have never heard of one case of someones computer breaking due to the heat. So does it get hot? Yes. Does it matter? No.

I use mine on a desk, so this rarely affects me. Also, that's cool I guess, only one year difference.
Very much a Yay! in my opinion. Regarding heat, it could probably damage your fertility if you had it doing anything intensive while on your lap for extended periods of time. I don't care, but it's worth mentioning. The actual computer will be fine.
Btw, I don't know if it's just me but my macbook pro felt kind of fragile so I got a case. It's really amazing. 1. It looks and runs fucking brilliant. 2. None 3. Stupid question 4. Yes
I heard the i5 models went over a 100 degrees Celsius in a benchmark.
I think that was the i7 MacBook Pros that do that.

This laptop is good for gaming and graphics design and is long-lasting, right?

Worth noting Apple laptops tend to have awesome resale value, too.

I can see how you would want to use your Macbook for graphic design, but Macbooks aren't really for gaming.
I can see how you would want to use your Macbook for graphic design, but Macbooks aren't really for gaming.
I've had a macbook pro for 2 or 3 years now and I've never had an issue running games on it on bootcamp or with something like crossover. And after doing some research, I can sell it for almost the same price as I got it for used.
So is this the type of heat that will destroy your computer in one day, or is it the 'ouch my palm hurts a bit when I rest it near fn' type of heat?
It's the "the computer will be fine, but don't put it on your lap because it will burn off your balls and roast your thighs" kind of heat.
I think that was the i7 MacBook Pros that do that.
Oops my mistake.
