While it might not be the best movie coming this year, seeing 2014 line-up, I think it has potential for becoming a cult-classic. It is scheduled to be screened in the Special Presentations section of this year's TIFF. Jake Gyllenhaal looks mesmerizing, trailers look fresh and I still have no idea what is going. Definitely looking forward to it.
Oh, and in case you forgot: If you want to win the lottery, you have to make the money to buy a ticket.
Really want to see this. Gyllenhaal looks so fucking good.
People are already calling it the new Drive. Looking forward to this one.

Sorry, there is only one Drive

Needs Kurt Wagner.
New trailer's here. It's as good as the previous ones, but it shows plot details, so I wouldn't watch it if you're already interested in it.

Oh, and premiere date is now October 31st. Get hype for some Halloween Pulp-Journalism.
Looks like he starts engineering crimes to get the scoop? It also looks like a role he can really shine it, will be keeping my eye out for this one.
Geez, I know Hollywood likes dark and gritty reboots, but he isn't even blue in this one!
Jokes aside, this looks great.

It didn't struck me as engineering crimes. I know about what specific scene from the trailer you're talking about and I think it was more in terms of [sp]just moving a body to have a better shot. Still unethical, but not as the crime itself. Though, we don't know to what lengths his character will get.[/sp]
I don't know what it is but this new trailer feels more "normal". In the previous trailer there's this strange vibe that keeps you on your toes, in the new one it felt more like action thriller.

I hadn't watched the second trailer at the point of posting which was dumb of me. [sp]When he was speaking about a breakin and it cut to him with a camera, I assumed he'd hired someone to break in so he could film it all[/sp].
That poster is baller as fuck.
The trailer Joz posted was down, so here:

I was expecting Nightcrawler from the Xmen.
I was really excited when I saw the trailer for nightcrawler, but was a bit saddened by the second trailer. It gave waaay to much info and I fear that it (like many other trailers) has shown some of the best scenes.

Why are people watching past two first trailers if they already want to watch said film, it's beyond me.
First reviews from Toronto are in.
[Nightcrawler] is a star vehicle that will test audience enthusiasm for Gyllenhaal’s big, mannered star turn — a feast of capital-A acting that’s sometimes amusing to watch but not believable for so much as a second.
Still, 6 out of 7 is a good score.

what?? "you've got to make the money to buy a ticket"
to me, the impression i got, [sp] he's the one committing the crimes to get a good scoop and get ahead in journalism [/sp]
I thought that was the entire point of the film and if it isn't I'm not really interested anymore
The script is really good so I'm looking forward to this.
Opens tomorrow. I made the money to buy a ticket.
i bought a ticket
... to a different show. i'll try and see this as soon as i get a car to drive.
just saw it
it's great.
Saw this last night. Amazing.
Thought that this was going to be mediocre but it was really good, Gyllenhaal plays a great sociopath(?) and the camera work, colours and composition of the scenes are all top notch. The only gripe I have with the movie really is some odd soundtrack choices that gave off the wrong tone at times.
people are gonna think I'm weird but it reminded me of Cannibal Holocaust

Yeah, some of the music had the wrong tone to it, but it makes sense if you put it in perspective: for us viewers, it's sending the wrong message, but this movie is being told (at least, as I see it) from Bloom's side. The triumphant score being used [sp]when he moves the car wreck victim's body into the light[/sp] makes more sense when you realize that Bloom knows he's hitting something big and he's finally making a name for himself.
Just got back from watching this and it was pretty fucking great. [sp]I really was expecting the movie to end with Gyllenhaal's character getting killed filming something.[/sp]
I found the music quite fitting for this movie. This is a movie about [sp] a sociopath who has both good and bad qualities and is trying to make a name for himself. Louis is a hard worker, determined, a very quick learner and those qualities are desired by most people. However he has his fucked up side of complete and utter manipulation, hatred of people, and his twisted sense of 'it's all about the bottom line and I'll do anything to directly get there'. So you are kinda split on wanting him to do well, but at the same time wanting that slick bastard to get whats coming to him. The way the movie progresses is great as it shows step by step his learning and how he's improving. At first he had no idea what crime scene to go to. He learns that through a mini montage. Then he gets to Bill Paxton and learns what angle to get for the shot. He goes on to learn he needs a team to help him beat his competition there. After that he learns to manipulate the situation by subtly moving the pictures in the fridge at the home. That was the first bit of foreshadowing of Bloom moving from simply going to scenes to actually manipulating them. We then have the shining moment of him moving the body for the perfect shot. Then things go further, after his assistant fails him he realizes he needs to get rid of the competition (either out of hate or just business), and actively causes his own crime scene. That's when he gets the bright idea to orchestrate his masterpiece that is the climax of the movie. Everything had a nice progression, and the music kind of followed that by playing silly motivational tunes while he was learning and growing.
I liked it because this is a story about, well not exactly an anti-hero or even a hero at all, it's about a creepy yet driven dude who has a bottom line view of reality with either a hatred of people or lack of empathy, and that bottom line view is the value that's being reinforced constantly through the film. He boils every situation down to, 'what do I want, why do I want it, and how do I get there'. He's not the only one with this mindset as the news director also plays into the ratings and her job, Bill Paxton and his role, as well as the fact that the opposing view of 'dont just think about the bottom line, think about the people' was being constantly shut down (the assistant never gets his way and ends up dying for trying to be empathetic, and the other news director who's info got shut down because they wanted to keep the ratings up by scaring people). [/sp] I'm spoiler taging all of this just in case.
I really liked the movie, although the ending was a bit of a let down for me. [sp] I was really expecting it to end with him after his big score, end up being in a car crash and having some other person film him as he dies, sort of thought the whole thing with him driving super fast all the time was a bit of foreshadowing to him dying like that [/sp]

[sp]I didn't know he was insane from the beginning[/sp].
