rip in pease armstrong
wow they sold a lot of records! good thread!
1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours is still amazing, same with Insomniac and Kerplunk, don't mind some Nimrod either, everything else is pretty blah
1039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours is still amazing, same with Insomniac and Kerplunk, don't mind some Nimrod either, everything else is pretty blah
I personally love every album.
I would have to say each of their albums have their good and bad songs.
Quite enjoying ¡Dos! except for Nightlife. That song is bloody awful. I just wish they would write song like their older stuff, shit like Paper Lanterns are too fucking good.
Quite enjoying ¡Dos! except for Nightlife. That song is bloody awful. I just wish they would write song like their older stuff, shit like Paper Lanterns are too fucking good.
I found Dos to be quite good as well. Loving Fuck Time, Stop When the Red Lights Flash, and Wow! That's Loud. Personally, I found ¡Uno! To be a bit more solid than !Dos! though.
Green Day is my favorite band of all time. My favorite songs from each album respectively: Green Day (Paper Lanterns is also damn good), Welcome to Paradise, Basket Case, Armatage Shanks, Platypus (I Hate You), Minority, Jesus of Suburbia, ¿Viva La Gloria?, Let Yourself Go, and It's Fuck Time. [editline]13th November 2012[/editline] It's not even really the music I love so much, but the symbolism it holds for me. Green Day got me into punk and introduced me to new kind of thoughts. The day I listened to American Idiot is the day my patriotism died.
"the subliminal mind fuck america" blew your mind, huh funny how millions of dollars were spent marketing it [editline]14th November 2012[/editline] when an album has an advert on TV that's when you know it's fucking awful
"the subliminal mind fuck america" blew your mind, huh funny how millions of dollars were spent marketing it [editline]14th November 2012[/editline] when an album has an advert on TV that's when you know it's fucking awful
2mainsteam4me
green day isn't bad because they're mainstream, it's because they're shit
green day isn't bad because they're mainstream, it's because they're shit
That's just like, your opinion man. I prefer their earlier stuff to their newer stuff. I liked quite of their songs, Basket Case, longview and minority come to mind. Haven't listened to !Uno and !Dos yet though.

Still haven't listened to Dos yet
UNO has some good songs on it, like Nuclear Family, etc. Some of the others are kind of trash but overall it's a good album. Still haven't listened to Dos yet
DOS is alright I guess.
"the subliminal mind fuck america" blew your mind, huh funny how millions of dollars were spent marketing it [editline]14th November 2012[/editline] when an album has an advert on TV that's when you know it's fucking awful
Well the thing about making a cool message is if you don't put it out there nobody will hear it so what's the point of that The cool thing about American Idiot was that Green Day was in a position where what they would do next would probably be heard by a good deal of the masses, so putting that into the core message was a good way to utilize their mainstream fame
yeah, what a rebellious and revolutionary message. america is bad? hold the phone!
yeah, what a rebellious and revolutionary message. america is bad? hold the phone!

The song heavily criticizes the state of the United States circa 2004, with lines referencing the danger of the "new, biased media." Billie Joe Armstrong was inspired to write the song after hearing the Lynyrd Skynyrd song "That's How I Like It" on his car radio. Said Armstrong, "It was like, 'I'm proud to be a redneck' and I was like, 'oh my God, why would you be proud of something like that?' This is exactly what I'm against."
such a novel concept, very original. well, there was an entire album made by bad religion in 1982 that covers the same themes (without the 12 year old pandering ballads) but you know whatever [editline]15th November 2012[/editline] very brave of him to take a stance against lyrics written by the 50 year old men that penned "sweet home alabama"

Discrediting music because of shared topics is just stupid. They don't even sound similar. Bad Religion has a very hardcore, distorted, noisey sound (well, they did at that time period) while American Idiot-era Green Day has a MUCH more pop-punk sound. [editline]15th November 2012[/editline] Wait a minute, aren't you the alt of that perma'd asshole that ran the hardcore thread who refused to even consider listening to something, let alone with an open mind, if it wasn't pre-90's punk?
Literally only pop-punk band that is alright, wish they weren't so pop. But eh, things change.
I really couldn't be bothered taking the piss out of Green Day too much, it's the choice of the listener if they want to listen to phony dicks. They are about as punk as Enya.
The day I listened to American Idiot is the day my patriotism died.
woaw [editline]16th November 2012[/editline]
The song heavily criticizes the state of the United States circa 2004, with lines referencing the danger of the "new, biased media."
woaw [editline]16th November 2012[/editline] I didn't even know that. Fuck Billie Joe Armstrong more than before.
It's true, why the hell would you be proud to be a Redneck?
Punk is about being yourself, if someone wants to be a redneck you complaining about that pretty much makes you a hypocrite, though in the movie SLCPunk! Rednecks and punks are mortal enemies so. Meh. Bottomline is they're pretty far from "punk" these days.
It's true, why the hell would you be proud to be a Redneck?
Allow me to let Hank Williams Jr. explain that to you. Fuck that douche.

Hey. Never once did I say that Sweet Home Alabama was a good song.
Not entirely sure how this is different from when Skynyrd wrote Sweet Home Alabama as a response to Neil Young's Southern Man
neil young's more punk than green day btw
neil young's more punk than green day btw
Pop-punk in general is just a complete contradiction
I really couldn't be bothered taking the piss out of Green Day too much, it's the choice of the listener if they want to listen to phony dicks.
