U.S. President Donald Trump's White House wants to sell half of the nation's emergency oil stockpile and open the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge to drilling as part of plans to balance the budget over the next 10 years, documents by the administration showed. The White House budget... is meant as a proposal and may not take effect in its current form. But it reveals the administration's policy hopes, which include ramping up American energy output. The U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve, the world's largest, holds about 688 million barrels of crude oil in heavily guarded underground caverns in Louisiana and Texas. Congress created it in 1975 after the Arab oil embargo caused fears of long-term motor fuel price spikes that would harm the U.S. economy. ... The Trump budget would also seek to raise $1.8 billion over the coming decade by leasing oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve, the largest protected wilderness in the United States, believed to hold rich reserves of crude. ... U.S. politicians have been debating whether to open the reserve in northeastern Alaska to drilling since the 1970s, with opponents citing the risk of spills and the contribution to global climate change. Trump has already moved to expand U.S. offshore drilling, including in parts of the Arctic, as part of his broader effort to support the oil and gas industries. He has also moved to trim the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, including by proposing a more than 30 percent cut to its funding. Donald Trump, fucking up everything in his wake every day. I would love to see Obama back in the presidential seat again.
All in the name of making America great again... the American 1%, that is.
Friendly reminder that him selling off half the reserves and opening the Arctic for drilling would fit in with Steele dossier with Rosneft and Exxon. How much you wanna bet we're suddenly gonna have an oil crisis, and Russia will step in to help.
I legitimately wish we would just completely run out of oil at this point Regardless of the impact it'd have it would seriously be better off in the long run
I legitimately wish we would just completely run out of oil at this point Regardless of the impact it'd have it would seriously be better off in the long run
How would we make plastics?
recycling
I legitimately wish we would just completely run out of oil at this point Regardless of the impact it'd have it would seriously be better off in the long run
Yeah at the cost of a global panic and a complete shutdown of infrastructure and most people's livelihood's that would take untold years to overcome, I can't see any problems with that.... /s. As much as we need to completely move away from fossil fuels quitting cold turkey like that because we run out globally would cause countless issues. Many would die, wars would be fought over the last remaining stockpiles, it'd be chaos. These things take time, and while pretty much every individual and nation should be more agressive about cutting usage, it still needs to be gradual.

Fucking disgusting and utterly indefensible. People are going to look back on this time with such derision in the coming century.
the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve, the largest protected wilderness in the United States
Yeah, it's protected for a reason, you tiny-dicked shit-eater.
I can get the drilling, but why the oil reserve? It'd be a decent short-term bump in the revenue I guess but I really don't think it's worth it--we're being risky enough with the budget without putting our oil sovereignty on the line.

Why do people like you and Billymays show this blind fucking eye to the environment if there is money to be made somehow?
"I can understand considerably fucking up the environment..." Why do people like you and Billymays show this blind fucking eye to the environment if there is money to be made somehow?
Because... America first???? I don't fucking know anymore with these people.

Why the drilling, but not the reserves?
How about we drill at Mar-a-Lago instead?
It's so good to know that after Trump, nothing will be left. Global famine will reign supreme while the 1% hide in their fallout shelters, letting the world die for their sins.

Grandpa was a petrol engineer in the 50-60s. Turns out they drilled a shitload of oil wells across the country and just capped them. Said they were preparing for the day they ran out of oil so America would always have reserves
ugh watched frozen planet earlier and reading this man fuck ppl

Said they were preparing for the day they ran out of oil so America would always have reserves
That's why America buys oil from abroad even though we have our own, our long term plan was so that when the world runs dry, then we can use our reserve.
But weren't you just expressing support for this budget which when asked to qualify you refuse to do so?
I have no idea what you're talking about. This is the White House spending forecast, just released this week.
Won't selling off half our oil reserves reduce supply and thus increase the cost of oil and gasoline for consumers? Seems like the only people who benefit from this plan are the oil companies.
Won't selling off half our oil reserves reduce supply and thus increase the cost of oil and gasoline for consumers? Seems like the only people who benefit from this plan are the oil companies.
It would temporarily flood the market with supply, as suddenly there is much more oil for sale to buyers. The effect would be downwards pressure on oil prices.
