They are expected to clash on issues such as currency, the NHS and North Sea oil and gas estimates. It is the second time the two leaders have met face-to-face for a television referendum debate. It will be screened on BBC One Scotland, and across the rest of the UK on BBC Two, from 20:30 BST. Scotland will go to the polls in a referendum on 18 September, answering the "Yes/No" question: "Should Scotland be an independent country?"
UK viewers can watch on BBC iPlayer. The STV stream might be available globally but I'm not sure. It starts about 30 minutes from when this thread was posted.
Hopefully STV doesn't fall a part as soon as it starts.
It's starting
Alex Salmond is so manipulative. The way he stands up away from the podium when he answers questions is such a dirty trick to distract from the answer, the way he mentioned the 1979 referendum at the start without saying that the turnout was so low that nowhere near a majority of people voted for it, invoking Thatcherism as if it's a current argument for independence. His performance is entirely based off appealing to emotion combined with offering no real answers and one-liners.

Salmond can't stop shouting about Darling being in bed with the Tory party.
Salmond can't stop shouting about Darling
Pretty much sums up the debate so far. Everytime Darling tries to respond Salmond just shouts him down.
This debate is shit they're just talking over each other the whole time [editline]25th August 2014[/editline] Moreso than the last one
This debate is shit they're just talking over each other the whole time [editline]25th August 2014[/editline] Moreso than the last one
I wish they told the audience to gtfo like they do for American election debates.
5 minutes of "NAME 3". They're literally screaming over each other.
5 minutes of "NAME 3". They're literally screaming over each other.
It's not even an important question.
I've stopped watching
They're talking about Trident now.
Salmond is a cunt, the debate's a fucking joke. Nothing new here, lads, just move along.
2 twats and some questions, come and watch it boys and girls
I've stopped watching it. One thing that's massively frustrating me is why on earth is Salmond bringing up the policies and practices of Labour and the Conservatives? They may have made bad decisions but an independent scotland could easily make just as poor decisions. There's nothing to say that a Scottish labour or Scottish Conservative party wouldn't spent a proportionally equal amount on defense? These are party policies, and are completely irrelevant to wether or not independence would benefit scotland should as such be omitted. And what the fuck is he going on about poverty for, just because poverty is expected to increase.. is that Salmond then saying he's going to single handedly eliminate poverty if scotland becomes independent? EUURHG.
Is it like the Bill Nye and Ken Ham debate except Scottish?
Alex Salmond is a slimey bastard.
I thought Salmond made some good points, don't get all the hate for him. Darling acted just as much as an asshole, talking over and laughing at his points. IMO Salmond won the debate simply because he gave clearer points whereas Darling tended to ramble on at some points or repeat himself.
I didn't get through it all. Stopped when the "cross-examination" shouting match started. Most irritating thing about Alex Salmond was saying "nobody can stop us from using the pound". Nobody can stop you from shooting yourself in the head, either, even after Alistair Darling has told you what's bad about shooting yourself in the head.
Do people really still think Iraq was just Blair and Bush looking for some sweet oil money?

Not by who was the most calm, but by who has given the most influential facts and statistics which neither of them have done. The fact it's got to that stage just shows It's a complete shambles.
I reckon Salmond will do better in the instant poll than he did in the last debate Assuming there is an instant poll this time
I thought Salmond made some good points, don't get all the hate for him. Darling acted just as much as an asshole, talking over and laughing at his points. For Example The installation of Trident is irrelevant as an argument for independance, just because they're not in Scotland doesn't mean that they cease to exist, they'll just be moved. Yet Salmond acts as if it's some great morale triumph ignoring the fact that it'll cost thousands of jobs.
Darling is the wrong guy for the job, especially when debating a worm.
Is it like the Bill Nye and Ken Ham debate except Scottish?
even ken and bill were polite and didn't interupt each other (much, ken was still a twat and interjected the bible every 5 minutes)
Oh shit lol Thought it would be closer than that
Salmond did a lot better than before if you watched the entire thing. He actually pretty much fucking rekt Alastair Darling beyond anything i would have expected.
Knew it. The audience seemed to like Salmond a lot more.
The guy chairing the debate was fucking shit and the cross examination thing was a waste of 20 minutes because it was just shouting incoherent shit at each other. Apart from that the debate was pretty good. I feel sorry for Alastair Darling though, he had to stand up there as a Labour MP and defend the Conservative government.
