I also believe EA’s strategy is sound. Our focus on our talent, our brands and our platform together with our investment in next-generation consoles, mobile and PC free-to-play, as part of our ongoing transition to digital, is right. But we have plenty of work ahead to ensure our collective success.

In the short term, our mission is crystal clear: We are 100 percent focused on delivering our FY14 business plan. We have made strong progress in the first half of the fiscal year, establishing financial discipline and continuing to create a slate of fantastic games for current and next-generation consoles, mobile and PC. But now we’ve got to finish the job – execute in Q3 and Q4 and deliver on the promises we made to our fans and our shareholders.
Am I the only one slightly worried about how he explictly mentions mobile before PC, and only mentions PC as free-to-play?
Mobile games bring in magnitudes more revenue than non-browser PC games, of course they're going to put more focus on the former.
After witnessing the disaster that was Battlefield Heroes and what it could have been, I don't think I'd play another free 2 play game by EA. [t]http://imgkk.com/i/ycgv.jpg[/t]

I wish them the best. Let's just hope they'll perform better in the future.

How does that thing have data for two fiscal quarters that haven't even started yet.
How does that thing have data for two fiscal quarters that haven't even started yet.
Predicted?
[t]http://imgkk.com/i/ycgv.jpg[/t]
"weapons for sale" controversy was that special promotion before release where if you bought something else (other Battlefield games I think?) you unlocked an exclusive weapon. shows how far we have come since selling weapons as DLC is standard fare.

kinda weird but it almost looks like PC is a near steady stream of income vs console which jumps between major releases, the reason they mention mobile is they have a huge presence on the app store and have a largish android base too. they are like the only AAA producer of iPad games
I really dislike this treatment of games as a business endeavor for profit. By definition they are going to appeal to the lowest common denominator, which more often than not is going to result in reams of shit games.

Game production should be about the game first and THEN profit. It's why the indie game scene is getting as big as it is now; indie devs put their hearts and souls into their games and THEN go off and make profit with them.
continuing to create a slate of fantastic games
ha. I looked at the games list on their web site, and it's just a few good games milked through a dozen variations each and then a hundred mobile versions of board games.
How does that thing have data for two fiscal quarters that haven't even started yet.
fiscal year != calendar year looks like they are running a April FY start
I really dislike this treatment of games as a business endeavor for profit.
The only requirement for corporations is to return a profit to their shareholders. That is how it works for every industry. Buyers have a set level of quality before they will purchase a good. That quality goes too low, you stop selling, you stop making profit, you aren't meeting the requirement. As a consumer you have power if you don't like what they are doing. Don't buy their games. Force the quality to go up.

Revenue, not profit, I'd guess mobile games have much lower costs than titles like Battlefield and Dead Space.
Still utterly disgusting.
Not sure why it is disgusting, it's simple economics. Care to elaborate?
How does that thing have data for two fiscal quarters that haven't even started yet.
Timetravel.

EA is in it to make money and you fuckers keep paying them.
Revenue, not profit, I'd guess mobile games have much lower costs than titles like Battlefield and Dead Space.
At the same time, major AAA titles like them usually have their revenue spread between both PC and the consoles, so it'd probably even out.
Hey, imagine if people stopped paying for terrible garbage. EA is in it to make money and you fuckers keep paying them.
They have some pretty decent games that I'm willing to pay for.
They have some pretty decent games that I'm willing to pay for.
The only EA games I've been genuinely disappointed with in recent years was Medal of Honor Warfighter (which I got for free) and Sim City which is kinda fixed right now but still suffers from major issues, namely city size.
This was the EA sports guy who said last July that the Wii U launch ports were better than the originals, (They are heavily inferior). He is worse than the previous CEO from the things he has said.
Hey, imagine if people stopped paying for terrible garbage. EA is in it to make money and you fuckers keep paying them.
Alright I'll just keep buying the games I'd like to play and you can boycott every EA game because they're evil.

The average gamer obviously loves CoD.
Mobile games bring in magnitudes more revenue than non-browser PC games, of course they're going to put more focus on the former.
Actually no, EA lost money focusing on mobile the last few years, and Activision has stayed clear of mobile because of it. Most articles talking about EA's finacial troubles mentioned mobile as part of EA's woes.

Most articles talking about EA's finacial troubles mentioned mobile as part of EA's woes.
A lot of the AAA publishers don't want to get in on the mobile market straight away as they don't actually know how to develop and spread a mobile game like they do a AAA release. Smaller studios that are succeeding on the mobile market are likely to get bought out by the bigger publishers when they have some understanding, rather than the publisher starting from scratch. [editline]18th September 2013[/editline]
and then they blame piracy and make themselves out to be the victims.
Usually when your game isn't selling well it has a relatively high piracy rate (various reasons, people wanting to play the awful game but not fund it, people pirating for the sake of pirating, etc.). Piracy is a massive issue, don't downplay it.
I'm not saying I endorse the anti-piracy measures some studios take but piracy isn't an issue to be swept under the rug, it's a real issue, especially for small developers.
Still utterly disgusting.
Who cares, let EA wallow in their mobile mud pit. Buy good games made by other companies if EA slips up.
