Right now I got a bunch of ideas in my head, but turning them into a screenplay is grinding business... Especially when I know it won't be produced until I have time for it, which I know will be a while. Problem is, my desire for creating a movie is distracting me from writing the book because it feels like if I make it a book it will be very repetitive to make it a screenplay and vice versa, since its writing the same thing twice.
In short: is making a screenplay out of a book as hard as making one from scratch, and does writing a screenplay need to follow the strict, and well established format of Hollywood if you're doing it all yourself, and remaining independent?
Forgot to mention that I'm asking this out of concern for dialog, mostly. No actor would want to try and figure out vague references to a conversation in a book
