The government said tougher sentences would act as a "significant deterrent".
AHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHA AHAHAHAHHAHAHHHHAAAA HAHAAAAAAAAAAA
Groups that represent the country's creative industry - particularly film and music - have been lobbying hard for this for some time. They argue that a couple of years in jail just isn't a sufficient deterrent to prevent online piracy, and that the law is well out of date.
Are these guys on PCP or something? Why are we even listening to these people?
Are these guys on PCP or something? Why are we even listening to these people?
Because clearly those are terrible crimes for which we must return the death sentence, silly! Remember, at least Hitler didn't pirate video games.
Ten years? I didn't know torrenting a movie was so dangerous to society.
The truly sad thing is that all the money spent into ''preventing piracy'' and all that could go towards much better places, because this is quite literally wasted money.
Considering how bad most of the movies are, I don't really see a problem with those pirates who illegal download them.
You know it's truly digital age when being a pirate gets you more than when you're a real criminal.
I consider piracy charges to be up there ( or even worse ) than locking someone up because they had a little bag of weed on them. Incredible waste of time and resources.
For me it's way worse, but still both are absolutely ridiculous. The difference between piracy and weed is that weed should be legal though, it's just I don't know if there's any existing punishment that is lenient enough to be subjected onto pirates. Jail time is out of the fucking question, maybe a small fine and paying the company the fee of the product?

It should be an entirely civil matter, not a criminal one. The idea of someone being in jail for 10 years for piracy is utterly insane.
Ministers have launched a consultation on increasing it to 10 years
For a comparison, the following crimes also have a maximum sentence of 10 years. Administering poison etc. so as to endanger life Possession of firearm without certificate Indecent assault on a woman or man Sexual assault Burglary with intent to commit rape (non-dwelling) And somehow online copyright infringement is in the same league, what a fucking joke.
I enjoy how not a single poster here read this part:
"The proposed measures are mainly targeted at the distributors of pirated content - the people creating copies of movies, sometimes before release, and uploading them to be downloaded by thousands upon thousands. It's not, the police are clear to point out, aimed at small-time downloaders - although there are other ways and means to prevent that too."
It's not a law for common people just downloading shit, it's a law for people actively obtaining and uploading this shit so that the common people can download it. I mean, it's still a very silly law and I have no fucking clue what they are thinking about when human right violations can get you less time than uploading digital copies that cause estimates of possible losses.
The aim is not to send you to jail for years but that you choose to pay the settlement more often. If ISP's give user information more easily it can be a very profitable business that can also be fully automated.
Nobody goes to jail for over 2 years if they have any kind of way they can prevent it. People who go to jail because they don't pay a fine, go to jail because they can't afford to pay a fine, which is really really wrong.

It's pretty much buying freedom if it comes to that.
I feel bad for people who pirate photoshop or 3ds max.
I'd rather pay 3K than to pay 100K+ for "damages".
So its better to just rob small stores now? Nice, good going government faggots.
Ten years? I didn't know torrenting a movie was so dangerous to society.
you wouldn't download a car
AHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHA AHAHAHAHHAHAHHHHAAAA HAHAAAAAAAAAAA
are you ok? you're laughing so hard that you could puke from it
The film and music industry have been lobbying for tougher penalties for online piracy
Yeah well, then make series available worldwide. How the fuck am I supposed to watch Game of Thrones where I live, except for downloading it from people who uploaded it?
Imagine malware that downloads and uploads illegal content for the sole purpose of getting you 10 years of jail time or fined a rediculous amount of money. And that malware was created by the record labels and noone can prove it because they're lobbying against the government investigating
Yet murderers and whatnot get less, go figure.
Yet murderers and whatnot get less, go figure.
you're murdering profits, man, just because they're religious doesn't mean you should get away with killng them [editline]20th July 2015[/editline] i have just been informed that i have yet again mixed profits and prophets up
Money has always been worth vastly more than human life.
And it's sickening.
not harsh enough, need back to back life sentences Send their children to prison once the parents die
