Why people drive on the left side of the road?
Why the right side? Because they, like us, picked it and it stuck. There's also some more mythical explanations as well, like how the samurai in japan would walk on the left to have easy access to their swords, but w/e. And some places like australia just do it cuz mommy did too
Why the right side? Because they, like us, picked it and it stuck.
Well I read a little bit and there's some mythology to it. The reason for the left side of the road is back in the day people wanted to able to use the right hand to withdraw their sword to protect themselves from robbers. The right side roads because it's too close to the sum of the road and it's easier to keep balance

Hitler's involved. Of course.
Oh I just got interesting tell me more

The Austrian states of Vorarlberg, Tyrol and Carinthia, as well as the western half of Salzburg switched to driving on the right between 1921 and 1935. When Germany annexed Austria in 1938, Hitler ordered the rest of Austria to make the switch overnight. The change threw the driving public into turmoil, because motorists were unable to see most road signs. In Vienna it proved impossible to change the trams overnight, so while all other traffic took to the right-hand side of the road, the trams continued to run on the left for several weeks. Czechoslovakia and Hungary, among the last states on the mainland of Europe to keep left, changed to the right after being invaded by Germany in 1939 and late 1944 respectively
http://www.worldstandards.eu/cars/driving-on-the-left/ Napoleon too forced it upon countries he conquered.
because brits are weird
Why is it called driving on the right side when it's the wrong side though? Nice how Hong Kong is better than the main land and Hong Kong drives on the left.
Because the left side is the right side! There's also the argument that most people are right eye dominant so having vehicles being right hand drive actually makes sense in that area, more likely to notice something when driving on the left if you're right eye dominant, another argument is there's less blind zones when driving on the left for larger vehicles.
The left side if the driver is on the right, for visibility. The right for if the driver is on the left, for visibility. Depending on which side of the car the driver is on allows for an easier turn, left for left driver and right for right driver.

[editline]21st December 2016[/editline] come to think of it, many things on this planet can be explained by "British Empire"

Wow brits got it all wrong The right side is the right side, obviously. And the left side is the wrong side.
People drive on the left because that is the good and proper way to do it. I'll have none of this Napoleonic agenda pushing.
In my country people ride motorcycles on both side of the road in a same direction
why do you post genuinely awful threads like this and the trump watch one
I know the left side was adopted in England in response to Napoleon's overwhelming victories in Europe because, if he ever invaded, it would be an added layer of logistical confusion since the French Empire used the right side of the road.
why do you post genuinely awful threads like this and the trump watch one
This is the fast thread section. It's where people post questions and low quality threads. This sections icon is a pic of a turd. Meaning shit posting should be expected.
It's 2016 we shouldn't even need roads.
We should drive in the middle of the road, because then we will have two ways to swing away from oncoming traffic. When driving on either the right or left side of the road, we only have one option, either just to swing to the right or the left. 200% safety increase by driving in the middle.
Why people drive on the left side of the road?
shifting gears with left hand is much more relaxing.
Why not both?
http://www.worldstandards.eu/cars/driving-on-the-left/ Napoleon too forced it upon countries he conquered.
looks like godwin's law is pretty truthful

Having driven in Australia and the USA, it was always much easier to, I guess you could say, see traffic in Australia, while there would be bias as I have mainly driven here, my girlfriend who's American can agree with that too, she found it easier to see and drive in Australia than in the USA.
And according to road safety associations and people like that you should always turn your steering wheel in a vertical stroking manner. So your dominant hand for such activities may affect the efficiency for one hand steering (like when changing gears) as well. If you frequently use the right hand then you might perform marginally better driving on the left site of the road and vice versa.

Driving on the left side of the road should be eradicated quicker than ebola.
