The National Security Agency is reportedly reeling from comments made by Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Dianne Feinstein — one of the agency's staunchest defenders — in the wake of revelations that the NSA spied on foreign leaders, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
"With respect to NSA collection of intelligence on leaders of U.S. allies — including France, Spain, Mexico and Germany — let me state unequivocally: I am totally opposed," Feinstein said in a statement Monday. “Unless the United States is engaged in hostilities against a country or there is an emergency need for this type of surveillance, I do not believe the United States should be collecting phone calls or emails of friendly presidents and prime ministers. The president should be required to approve any collection of this sort.

According to Foreign Policy magazine, Feinstein's public reversal shocked at least one NSA official.
"We're really screwed now," the official said. "You know things are bad when the few friends you've got disappear without a trace in the dead of night and leave no forwarding address."
Feinstein called for a "major review into all intelligence collection programs."
“It is abundantly clear that a total review of all intelligence programs is necessary so that members of the Senate Intelligence Committee are fully informed as to what is actually being carried out by the intelligence community," Feinstein said. “Unlike NSA’s collection of phone records under a court order, it is clear to me that certain surveillance activities have been in effect for more than a decade and that the Senate Intelligence Committee was not satisfactorily informed
It's like they're run by a bunch of paranoid schizophrenics and they can't stop spying on all their neighbors.
Stop prying into people's lives and you won't screw yourselves over. It's that simple.
i hope america dies

To be honest, they just need to follow public posts in social media.

How ironic, the crazy conspiracy theorists were the conspirators all along.
i hope america dies
We're done here.
too bad the whitehouse won't agree to anything and theres enough pundits in congress who keep shouting "BUT BUT BUT TERRORISTS AND SAFETY AND COMMYTERRORISTS"
It's like they're run by a bunch of paranoid schizophrenics and they can't stop spying on all their neighbors.
You do realize that 'allies' spy on each other routinely. Getting caught is a faux pas but not a big surprise.
who would be left to wear canada like a hat tho
mexico
Feinstein, who supported the NSA's actions in private, knowing full well what they were up to, is a hypocrite, what else is new?
i hope america dies
Nah my favorite sci-fi stuff is from there, also rock music lol.

The newly created Empire of Texas, People's Republic of California, and Neo New York, duh.

This man is a mexican spy and does not represent the opinion of any canadian ever.
Now that they can't spy on anyone, what will they do?
Wait what were they even doing before spying?

"Can't spy on anyone"
That's almost certainly not true, and I doubt they've stopped doing what they exist to do just over some political crap.

PRC? Count me in
I can never hate the NSA. Without them, splinter cell: chaos theory wouldn't exist
PRC? Count me in
You'll get invaded by the Empire of Texas within the year though.
i hope america dies
But who then is going to keep the world safe?
If you actually read the article it points out that Feinstein has not only defended the surveillance programs, but is also about to introduce a bill to protect them. Just goes to show how quickly politicians can 180 for the sake of politics. Everyone who told the NSA what to do in the first place now throws them under a bus since it's the politically convenient option.
Cute.
As if espionage were invented by Obama's spy agency.
Some news stories will be made, and diplomatic ass will be kissed, but nothing will change behind the scenes.
How can NSA stop spying? It's the whole point of the agency.
