Before the end of last year, they announced everyone in the school would be getting a laptop, for only $40. I thought hey that's pretty cool, it must've cost alot of money for them! So we get a letter in the mail, saying everyone had to go pick up thier laptops. So I go. I get there, sign the papers/payed money, and some dude hands me a MacBook Pro. I about fucking raged right there. And if that wasn't bad enough, we had to go watch some shitty video about what we can (mostly CAN'T) do with them. They proceed to tell us that everything we do on the computer is recorded, and when we connect to the school's network, everything is sent to the admin(s). And the final part, some bitch lady from Apple talks to us about how we cannot install ANYTHING on them. A simple game? No. FIREFOX? NO! I must have been thinking they got these for REALLY cheap. Nope. They said they paid $1300 for each one. What. The. Fuck. I was thinking they could have gotten Windows PC's for half as much, and it would be better. When I got home I look at the FREAKING CRAZY ASS SPECS YEAH LOOK AT THESE: 2GB RAM 2GHz Processor NVidia GeForce 9400M CRAZY AWESOME HUH!? SHITTY POWER, AND NO APPLICATIONS! FUN HUH?! (In before whining about how they're "free") (User was banned for this post ("Didn't read the rules thread." - ventilated))
They gave you a laptop for SCHOOL WORK. Not for fun. Learn to School. And those specs are decent. And it's a MacBook Pro, STOP COMPLAINING. And Consider yourself lucky for even getting laptops given to you.
Format, install linux on a partition, profit.
Macbook Pro's are nice. I was thinking of getting one instead of my current G50V and said "Ah, what the hell, it's the same stuff but the windows laptop is bulkier, harder to use, easier to customize, and has more power." Macs have their upsides and their downsides So just reformat and reinstall OSX and Win7 and you're all set Hell, you should feel lucky you actually get laptops.
Would it have been better without a laptop at all? As radioactive said, it's for school work...
No, you're just stupid.
I'd be happy if i got a MB Pro for $40, even if i couldn't install anything. Maybe you can find some way to bypass the security features.
I wish our school gave us laptops. I have really shitty hand writing so I'd love to write everything in text.
Stop fucking moaning
Dumb .
Yeah I'd install something else than OSX, if I wouldn't get raped for doing it. Also, I lol'd when they said these laptops are for work and fun. 1. Yeah I know it's for schoolwork. I already have a PC though so... 2. I don't think you understand WE CANNOT INSTALL ANYTHING. Oh yeah just find a way around it. Yeah if I want to get in big trouble that's fine.
If the school's paid for them I don't think they'd want you to play games on them. [editline]01:47PM[/editline] Besides, MacBook Pros have a 9600M GT too, depending on which power mode you choose. Might want to update the OP.
Format, install linux on a partition, profit.
Pretty much that, you'll be set.
OP, what the hell did you think would happen? School: Have these expensive laptops for free! You can play games and install anything on them! :DDD OP: Just what I expected. OP is a kid.
I'd be happy if i got a MB Pro for $40, even if i couldn't install anything. Maybe you can find some way to bypass the security features.
Apple S on reboot, make new admin account
Sell it for an inflated price, buy porn, profit.
It's a MacBook Pro! Get the fuck over it, macs are great. And you have a computer at home, obviously, so just use it for school work like you're supposed to. (And those specs are fine, especially the graphics card.)
My point is, why did they pay $1300 for these Macs, when they could have spent $500 and gave us PCs, that are of equal or more power?

That wasn't your point in the OP. In the end, though, they usually pay off as lower lifetime costs due to a reduced need for technical support - you probably won't get upgraded for years, either.
Pfff all we get in my school are really old PDAs.
Holy shit, I'd love to get a MBP for $40, even if it is the 13" one.
OH GOD I HATE APPLE PRODUCTS RAGE! Shut up, they gave you a laptop that works and everything. Get over your Windows elitism.
Wait, wait, wait. You don't actually get to keep those laptops, right? Don't you have to turn it in at the end of the year or something?
2. I don't think you understand WE CANNOT INSTALL ANYTHING. Oh yeah just find a way around it. Yeah if I want to get in big trouble that's fine.
Let the school install it, the whole idea of this is that you've got a laptop, and it's easier for the school to run rather than giving you paper. If it doesn't need installing, don't install it. If anything does need installing, then it should be the schools duty to do so. Are you Californian?
Pretty much that, you'll be set.

Apple S on reboot, make new admin account
Yes if I want to get royally fucked by the principal. They monitor everything you do on them. Everything. Edit: Yes you turn them in at the end of the year. Then next year I'll have to pay another fourty! Yay!
No, actually, they don't.
Yes if I want to get royally fucked by the principal. They monitor everything you do on them. Everything.
Not if you turn off the WiFi. :buddy:
