I have had my Roccat Kone[+] for ~4-5 months now, and the mouse wheel already stopped detecting my clicks. My old Kone had it's mouse wheel break loose on me too, so it's the last time I'm getting any Roccat stuff.
Does anyone know a good, large mouse like the Kone, that doesn't break in less than half a year? I'm not so much into the logitech mouses, they are a little too old school for me.
if its still in warranty just use that
and you haven't given any budget, location or grip preferences
G9, G9x or Mx518
MX518 is amazing for the price
Since "old school" is a meaningless term, I'll still suggest the Logitech G500 (basically an evolution of the MX518). Plenty of DPI, not too small, not too big, enough buttons for your typical usage and it has an unlockable scroll wheel.
I currently have used my G500 for about 18 months and I love it. There was giant backlash because it used a sensor in the front of the mouse rather than directly in the middle of the mouse, which means that for turning it's more sensitive, but you evolve you're gaming style and I don't notice it.
I have a new G9x coming in the mail today actually so I can give my opinion on that as well.

At least on Amazon, the improved version of he MX518 is cheaper.

I own an MX518 and I couldn't love it more.

Old school... big... reliable? Get what I have, although it's not conventional:

I don't like the G9x

G400/G500/G700/G9x
the whole G series is great in my opinion

I know some really serious professional gamers who use these. They say it aids with flicking in games by allowing them to turn the ball faster than they could move their wrist or arm.
G9x, the free-wheel scrolling with conversion to the clicky-scrolling is a godsend

I thought the G400 was the MX518's upgraded version. I have it and like it better then the G5v2 I was using before. I got mine for $40 from amazon with shipping. I like it, its like a non-glossy MX518, its classy.
G9x, the free-wheel scrolling with conversion to the clicky-scrolling is a godsend
G500 has that too. Love it. Much faster at scrolling than pressing middle-mouse.
MX518, G400 or G500 are all great choices
I have the G700, its great. I do miss the auto free-scroll from my MX Revolution but pushing the button isn't as much of a inconvenience as I thought.
Roccat Kova +. conventional shaped mouse, none of that big ergonomic shit. I love this mouse

Mx518 is amazing indeed, it has speed control, which is insanely useful for sniping.

This thing is fucking amazing, and has lasted longer than 4 years for me. I'm still using it right now. I'm in college, I picked it up when I was in high school.

Actually, yes it does. Tremendous practice is required if you've been trained on a regular mouse, but I've started getting used to it after only a few days. The really neat thing is, I'm a crappy sniper and never play that class, but I've still managed a few flick headshots.

lol
Steelseries Ikari Laser.
I'm gonna get dumbed, and disagreed now, as half of facepunch are logitech mice fanboys. But really, try out the Ikari, it's amazing.

or instead of wasting $80 on a highly inferior product, get the xai (or just buy the g9x, same shit)
this is why I never bother posting in these threads, one of the best mice you can buy happens to be a really cheap, shitty looking optical mouse made by microsoft but everyone will disagree simply because of that
probably the same shit with the retards who think there's actually a modern monitor panel that's better or equivalent to a high end crt besides oled
Razer deathadder. Best mouse I ever had, amazingly comfortable and apparently the best sensor on the market (search around on the inernet). I know razer has somewhat of a name of being unreliable but mine is going strong for more than 2 years now. I have also owned a logitech g500 and a steelseries xai, both had to be returned because of technical failures (sensor in g500 became loose and the xai often disconnected itself).
Ikari is cheaper than Xai.
But the Xai is really, really, really good too.

Which one? I'm not going to disagree if it's actually a good mouse, but I'd be very surprised. Plus it helps credibility to back up what you're saying..

There are three principal Microsoft mice that are the best, the WMO (Wheel Mouse Optical), Intellimouse 1.1, and Intellimouse 3.0.
All three use the same sensor and only differ in ergonomics and buttons. WMO has no buttons and supports both left and right hand, Intellimouse 1.1 has one button on each side and also supports both left and right hand, while Intellimouse 3.0 has two buttons on the left side and supports only right hand.
Here is some shit about the mice that I had posted a few months ago if you want more credibility:
The surprising thing is that the WMO 1.1, Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical, which can be bought for less than $20, is the preferred mouse among the "top" gamers (in Quake at least), and that even several championships have been beaten using just the WMO. Some people even buy a newer gaming mouse like an MX518 or some Razer and switch back to the WMO. The Intellimouse 1.1 or 3.0 are also good, they have side buttons but weigh more and cost a tiny bit more.

This is rapha, winner of the Intel Extremes Master Tournament. He's being sponsored by Steelseries, which make those super expensive gaming mice like the Xai, thus he could get one for free, but he chooses instead to play with a WMO with a Steelseries sticker on it.

Actually the MX518 has built in correction for its sensor and many people don't like the grip, if you really want the best gaming mouse you'll go for the WMO, IMO 1.1, or the IMO 3.0. I was surprised when I found that the people with the best aim (the top CSS players or top Quake players) prefer these cheap Microsoft mice, but after reading a bit, I found out why. Not only are they cheap, but they are reliable, optical (which means they can handle high velocities better than laser mice), and weigh less.
They all use the same sensor which is 400 DPI, which may seem low but they actually prefer playing at low DPI even if they use mice that support higher DPI because they generally play at low sensitivities at which DPI becomes a lot less important, and in fact high DPI can make it harder to aim since human error becomes multiplied.
The difference between those three mice is that the IMO 1.1 has extra side buttons compared to the WMO, and the IMO 3.0 has even more side buttons but is right-handed rather than ambidextrous.
If someone doesn't believe me, take a look at this guide:

You had a great point at first, then I lost you with your statement on monitors. There's a reason why high-end products exist, and why people buy them. Sometimes they're simply just better. A good deal of the time they are rip-offs, but not everything out there beyond rock-bottom cheap technology is a rip-off.

I see. I don't play shooters but rather RTS games, where higher precision mice are more popular than low DPI lightweight optical mice like the MS ones.

high end products aren't always necessarily high end products, and if it sounded like I was implying anything that costs more is shit, that's not what I meant
