Connecticut senator wants businesses to refund consumers who didn't receive their shipped Christmas
(CNN) – A U.S. senator from Connecticut is calling on major shipping companies to refund customers whose packages didn't arrive in time for Christmas as promised.
"I am disappointed to learn that so many consumers in Connecticut and across the country made purchases this holiday season expecting their gifts to arrive in time for Christmas, but instead were left empty-handed," Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal said in a statement.
Some UPS customers reported missed arrival dates, and FedEx was late with some deliveries as well, but those were "isolated incidents," the company said in a statement Thursday.
UPS said Friday that customers with air or international shipments are entitled to refunds, per UPS's service guarantee.
But that guarantee was suspended for shipments via ground transportation beginning December 10 as part of an industry standard, according to the company.
Blumenthal acknowledged that workers for UPS, as well as FedEx and the U.S. Postal Service, work "grueling, long hours" during the holiday season.
If a company doesn't hold up their promise for delivery before Christmas, then damn right they should be refunded. It's almost fraud if they claim to do something they can't.
Why should the store pay for ups/fedex's mistake?

If it can be proven to be UPS/FedEx, no. Otherwise, you promise to deliver on time and you failed to deliver on that promise.
Order stuff like two months early and put it at the bottom of your dragon dildo collection, the kids will never find it.

but what if the collection is the gift

I know that only reading the thread title is the fashionable thing in SH but it's right there in the first line of the OP.

Everyone and their mother waited until the last minute to order. 1-3 day shipping works by being a small percentage of packages.
I think a refund for the shipping and handling.
Anything else is a bit extreme. Its not the business's fault. Fed-Ex and UPS were slowed and delayed.

Since this is spoken toward Fed Ex and UPS I would think the refund he's talking about is the shipping and handling.
There is so much bad reading in this thread. He's not asking places like Walmart and Marshals to refund the customers.
just gonna point out that in the article it says after a certain point they don't guarantee the delivery dates
there's just so many packages this time of year that some are bound to be late, especially considering the later thanksgiving
"UPS Ground shipments or UPS Standard™ shipments that are picked up or scheduled to be delivered during the fourteen calendar days before December 25." an exclusion to the delivery date
this doesn't mean that every package will miss its date, it just means that some could and there's really no point blaming them
