Okay, so my girlfriend and I were going over movies that we've never seen, that' we'd like to. We were trying to list movies that were older, and more influential than other movies. I wrote the list while we were on the phone, and this is what we got so far. I was thinking of adding or taking away a few. NOTE: We have not seen most of these, there are a few that I have seen parts of, or she has seen parts of, and there are a few I have seen all of, such as the full L.o.t.R series. (They are in NO specific order) -Sleepless in Seattle -Breakfast Club -The Godfather -The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly -Breakfast at Tiffany's -Gone with the Wind -To Kill a Mockingbird (I have seen) -Lord of the Rings Trilogy (I have seen) -Lord of the Flies -Scarface -A Fistful of Dollars -Dazed and Confused -True Grit -Cowboys and Aliens (When it comes out) -The Shawshank Redemption -Inception -Wizard of Oz -The Godfather Part: II -Casablanca -Wickerman (Orignal) -Rocky Horror Picture Show -Scream 1 -Scream 2 -Full Metal Jacket -Once Upon A Time in America -The Lakehouse -Amadeus -One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest -Monty Python and the Holy Grail -Karate Kid (Orginal) -The Matrix -Good Will Hunting -The Da Vinci Code -Troy -12 Angry Men -A Few Good Men -The Big Labowski -Spirited Away -The Pianist -Requiem for a Dream -A Clockwork Orange -The Green Mile -The Titanic -Tron -The Social Network -The Grapes of Wrath -Pocahontas -Saving Private Ryan -Pi -Black Swan -When Harry Met Sally -A Fistful of Quarters -007: Goldeneye So yea, any of these you guys think we should take away, or really well written/done movies that should be added, just drop a post.
-Sleepless in Seattle -Breakfast Club -The Godfather -The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly All around classic Cowboy movie. Definitely worth watching. -Breakfast at Tiffany's -Gone with the Wind -To Kill a Mockingbird (I have seen) -Lord of the Rings Trilogy (I have seen) -Lord of the Flies Totally depends which one you mean. The movies aren't bad but really don't have the same impact as the books and so it loses much of it's meaning. -Scarface -A Fistful of Dollars -Dazed and Confused -True Grit Saw this recently. One of the best 'modern' cowboy movies I have seen. -Cowboys and Aliens (When it comes out) -The Shawshank Redemption -Inception With a great story, suspense, drama, likable characters with unique personalities and plot-twists aplenty, Inception is an amazing suspense/thriller that will leave you hanging off the edge of your seat. -Wizard of Oz -The Godfather Part: II -Casablanca -Wickerman (Orignal) -Rocky Horror Picture Show -Scream 1 Pretty scary back in the day. However, as it being an old horror film, it might fall under the category of 'B' movies as of late, as it can be rather cheesy at times. Hence the founding of 'Movie' movies from the release of Scary Movie, a parody of Scream 1 -Scream 2 -Full Metal Jacket -Once Upon A Time in America -The Lakehouse -Amadeus -One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest -Monty Python and the Holy Grail -Karate Kid (Orginal) -The Matrix This movie came at a peak time when the Y2K scare was spreading. It really gets the viewer to question real-life and think hard about life and the things we have. With likeable characters, action a plenty, suspense, drama and a thrilling plot, it will leave you wondering where the movie will go next. Easily one of the best movies of all-time. Beware of the sequels. -Good Will Hunting An interesting movie within itself, it has a unique cast of characters that help to illustrate the problems surrounding mental sickness. -The Da Vinci Code -Troy -12 Angry Men -A Few Good Men -The Big Labowski -Spirited Away An amazing tale by the prestigious japanese Studio Ghibli, this animation is a wonderful tale of a young-girl who ends up landing herself in a fantastical world that is ruled by an evil woman. She makes friends along the way as she tries to find her way home. A timeless classic that pulls at the heart strings and is a great movie for people of all ages. It is also in the Top 10 Movies on Metacritic.com, This movie will leave you wanting more so I recommend seeing the other Studio Ghibli movies including Princess Monoke (A more adult Studio Ghibli film involving a ferocious conflict between industrial humans and mythical creatures defending their forest) and Totoro (A wonderful tale of two sisters who discover a mythical creature named Totoro). -The Pianist -Requiem for a Dream -A Clockwork Orange -The Green Mile -The Titanic -Tron -The Social Network -The Grapes of Wrath -Pocahontas -Saving Private Ryan -Pi -Black Swan -When Harry Met Sally -A Fistful of Quarters -007: Goldeneye One of the classic James Bond movies, Pearce Brosnan is really as his best in this film as he is accompanied by a strong female co-star in a large plot involving twists, betrayal and the James Bond action we have come to know and love. Definitely my favourite James Bond movie and worth watching if you are the tiniest bit a James Bond fan. Out of all the movies, I would recommend Spirited Away and The Matrix/Inception the most. Spirited Away is a timeless classic as Studio Ghibli's animation has aged wonderfully, meeting up to even modern expectations. It's wonderful story and characters will have you loving every bit of the movie, hence it's warranted extremely high reviews. The Matrix/Inception are two movies that are similar in that they question reality and what is real and what is not, the difference between an artificial world and a real world. These two movies go beyond a basic plot and have the viewer thinking about what life means. It questions our very basic existence and appeals to anyone with a brain.
The Da Vinci Code was influential?
The Big Lebowski has spawned an entire ideology, it is brilliant. I loved every second of it!
The Big Lebowski has spawned an entire ideology, it is brilliant. I loved every second of it!
Dudeism.
You need to see Dr. Strangelove. Probably one of the best films I've ever seen.
-Scream 1 Pretty scary back in the day. Hence the cheesyness at some points.
Oh god how can you not know scream was a parody :ohdear:
citizen kane
good list. if you want to get into film noir then i recommend Double Indemnity and The Last Seduction, both excellent films. if you also want an influential crime film then I recommend Sexy Beast. v. good film.
Mr. Nobody
-Lord of the Flies Totally depends which one you mean. The 90's remake is ass though. Also I second Citizen Kane dammit. [editline]9th January 2011[/editline] And watch This Is Spinal Tap. It invented the Rockumentary.
Duck Soup- The Marx Brothers
Why isn't North By Northwest on that list? :v:
Grave of the Fireflies
do they have to be movies? some series are influential too. if you seek for some interesting stuff, philosophy or something?
How are most of those Older?
If you're looking for an actual older movie that had a bit of influence I can recomend Dr Strangelove: Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.
If you're looking for something really influencial watch The Goon Show it pretty much invented alternative comedy.
My favourite film critic's favourite film is The Exorcist, which he thinks is not just the greatest horror film, but the greatest film ever made. I don't watch horror movies, but I'd say that was pretty influential if he thinks that about it.
this movie was made in 2010, its not wildly popular but its really good its called the conspirator

The only film critics I actually know of are Roger Ebert and that fat dude with the neckbeard who sometimes recommends me movies at the video store although I don't think that counts. What about Jay Sherman?
Not really sure if it is classified as "older" and I am equally not sure if I am going to spell this properly but.... Schindler's List. It is Liam Neeson at his best and is really touching. Really made me feel, man.
