In 2011, a magnitude 9.1 earthquake in the same region triggered a massive tsunami and led to almost 16,000 deaths. The temblor and tsunami led to a nuclear disaster at the power plant in Fukushima, which is still causing problem to this day. It's a lot more shallow than 2011 - 11.3km compared to 29km. USGS has it as a 6.9M [Main page]

Not again. I hope everyone will be okay. Aren't there a couple of Facepunchers in Japan? I hope they're out of danger.
Considerably smaller than the 2011 quake. But a 1-3 meter tsunami should be taken seriously.
Tsunami sirens going off, eerie as fuck Hoping for the best.
Is the water flowing out of the port? Looks like something is happening.
Has there been a load of earthquakes recently, or am I just having confirmation bias?
It woke me up pretty good. Building was swayig all nicely.
Oh shit,hope nobody gets hurt.
Has there been a load of earthquakes recently, or am I just having confirmation bias?
The latter, if you check the USGS site once a week and set it to weekly for all strength, you'll be surprised at just how many there are. [editline]22nd November 2016[/editline] [del]Two[/del] three more aftershocks. [t]http://i.imgur.com/BZhrr1t.png[/t]
Oh no :( Hope everyone stays safe.
My main concern is that the quake may have moved around stuff in the reactor vessel. A lot of teams have been working on mapping out the inside of the vessel to eventually use a robot to dig out the melted core. If stuff moved around then all the mapping is worthless. Contaminated groundwater is stored in giant barrels on the plant site. A lot of it meets drinking standards but they didnt release it because there are limits on "waste" dumping/lack of reliable knowledge on radiation health effects. If a tsunami hits it might spill open the barrels and put the contaminated water in the ocean.
Oh boy. Any updates?
Can a 3 metre tsunami even do anything to Fukushima? The last time was like 14 metres high
Reactor 3 cooling has been shut down. Meltdown 2: Nuclear Boogaloo
I have some friends where parts of the tsunami and earthquake may be occuring, I hope they'll all be alright
Reactor 3 cooling has been shut down. Meltdown 2: Nuclear Boogaloo
None of the reactors have been running for over a year anyways. This doesn't mean much aside from cooling to the idle rods has stopped.
Stay safe my dudes Reciently in Chile I've felt like two small earthquakes in this month and the last, I feel a big ol earthquake might be coming up soon too
Correction: spent fuel pool lost cooling Not as big of a deal as long as they get cooling back online within the next day or so [editline]21st November 2016[/editline] http://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/live/
Stay safe my dudes Reciently in Chile I've felt like two small earthquakes in this month and the last, I feel a big ol earthquake might be coming up soon too
earthquakes doesn't work that way m8
earthquakes doesn't work that way m8
not with that attitude
not with that attitude
this guy gets it
Has there been a load of earthquakes recently, or am I just having confirmation bias?
So far it's still under the yearly average, we haven't even had an 8+ one this year
reminds me of the tornado warning sirens around the midwest. those things can sound very eerie during the calm of the storm.
Our sirens always freak me out. Even to the point that I get mildly alarmed when I hear them testing it on a sunny Sunday afternoon before I catch myself.
reminds me of the tornado warning sirens around the midwest. those things can sound very eerie during the calm of the storm.
The ones in downtown Chicago are probably the worst
Sounds like they've extended the 3 meter warning to Miyagi prefecture as well.
