On Monday, the national security subcommittee of the Platform Committee approved an amendment dropping support of a two-state solution, according to four people who were in the room for the discussion.

In further moves to distinguish the GOP from Democrats on Israel as the latter party moves further to the left on the issue, the Republican amendment also included new language defending Israel. "We reject the false notion that Israel is an occupier, and specifically recognize that the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions Movement ("BDS") is anti-Semitic in nature and seeks to destroy Israel," the new version read. That seemed to be a direct shot at Democrats, who had to fight back a strong movement within their own party, represented by Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, to call out "occupation" by Israel in the party platform.
http://www.cnn.com/2016/07/11/politics/gop-platform-republican-convention-israel/ http://www.theamericanconservative.com/larison/israel-palestine-and-the-gop-platform/ [img_thumb]http://i1.wp.com/www.jewishpress.com/wp-content/uploads/13606753_10154115885616072_6240522765423193629_n.jpg?zoom=3&fit=300%2C300[/img_thumb]
Trump has been the final nail in the GOP's coffin. The party itself is now spiraling out of control into what I'm pretty sure would fit the clinical definition of insanity. Whatever little honour and reason the GOP once had to redeem itself, those days are now long gone. Nothing of value has been lost in the party's passing. I'm pretty damn sure Lincoln would be turning in his grave. You know, the only other countries in the world where politicians so vehemently reject reality in favor of what is politically convenient for their purposes are Muslim and Christian theocracies in the Middle East and Africa, Saudi Arabia in particular. Not from civilized nations. Americans should be very, very afraid of their country moving in that direction. Consider the vast power that your nation wields on the global stage... And then consider what would happen if politicians from today's GOP were given control of it.
-snip- The platform is so out of step with the world it might as well be goosestepping
The sad part is this is not even the worst that their platform has to offer. The gay conversion therapy and calling porn a public health crisis have to be my favorites.
It's sort of amazing how the Republican party is consistently wrong on nearly every issue. You'd imagine they'd be good on more than a few issues, considering that half the US votes for them, but that isn't the case. They're correct on... guns, and that's about it. The rest is either fearmongering, religiously motivated laws (despite both the first amendment and science), and blatant favors for the rich. But people buy into it. Partly because fearmongering works, and partly because everyone either believes "oh, some day I'LL be rich!" or is incredibly selfish and thinks "I don't need no universal health care. I won't get sick. And why should I have to pay for other people's education if I'm out of school?" And partly because the education system here is... less than adequate for most people.
