• Do you support cloning of animals and humans?

I want to see what facepunch thinks of cloning mammals and their opinions on it for some extra notes I'm doing for my science exam. Just incase you say something like "Herp derp, OP is an idiot because cloning is impossible", you could be wrong or right. Dolly the sheep was a cloned Finn-Dorset( a type of sheep) and was cloned by a group of German scientists by extracting a cytoplasm from a Scottish Blackface and extracting a Nuclear cell from a Finn-Dorset. The nuclear cell was put into the cytoplasm and they repeated this step several times until they had 227 eggs. They then used a mother Surrogate Ewe to carry the egg(s). But yet, there has been no evidence to support if it was hoax or if it was real. Picture for visual learners: But the sheep was put down due to severe lung disease and arthritis at the age of 6. But, Normal Finn-Dorsets live to the age of 12. I gathered some pros and cons about Human cloning. Enjoy. Pros: -Clones can be used to create humans that can provide organs for people who need a transplant. This shortens the organ waiting list significantly. -Clones can be used to donate blood -Clones can be used for jobs and the military -The Cloned Objects can be modified for the good or bad. Cons: -Only a 2-3% chance of survival rate -Short lifespan -The cost to clone something is $50,000 to $100,000 (no including equipment and dealing with the dead bodies) -That money could be used for better things like a cure for something -New diseases could be made (But yet, we've been geneticly modifying mammals for years now, and there are no diseases) -They have feelings, too! -Basically all the Pros I put are Cons, because they're being used as slaves I also left out one fact so I don't cause a religious shitstorm Message me if you have some good pros or cons that I can add to the OP So, Facepunch. What do you think about cloning mammals?
Yes.
All of your pros are absurd cons that involve basically growing people and treating them as slaves.
Interesting.
Interesting.
I was just going to make a comparison to the machines using humans as batteries. What the FUCK.
I was just going to make a comparison to the machines using humans as batteries. What the FUCK.
I love you too~<3 Also pancakes. Can we clone pancakes? I'm pretty sure I remember a South Park episode of this.
Heh. I'm the only one to use the poll. [editline]18th January 2011[/editline] Not anymore.
I fucking hate clones. They're so arrogant. "HURR look at me I'm a fucking clone!!!!iweosgh" seriously, fuck you
Cloning humans and using them in war is really twisted in my opinion-its the same as sending your twin to fight for you. Other animals I suppose its alright; I'm surprised they haven't used fossil DNA to learn more about extinct species.
Sure. I'd love to have an army of mes.

I'd clone myself.
I'd clone myself and make an army of sex slaves that are me. It's okay because I consent to it. That's how that works, right?

Ew no
Humans are mammals. :downs:
I meant to put animals :smith:
go ahead and clone the fuckers... i dont see any (major) problems and by the looks of your chart, Pros > Cons
i support it because science
Humans are mammals. This is redundant.
I'm cool with therapeutic cloning, but I'm not exactly okay with cloning if it means we're going to use them as human cannon fodder.
Lifespam.
I don't really see the point in cloning humans when I can just stick my dick in somebody and make one just as easily.
yes i would support it as long its obedient the thing is what would i need it for?
I don't really care about either, but cloning humans usually gets into weird ethics shit and it's probably just better to grow limbs instead.
Humans are mammals. :downs:
Also, to me the idea of cloning is creepy, but whatever advances science faster... go for it.
I say continue on with cloning.
Go ahead, clone the beast and man.
I don't really care about either, but cloning humans usually gets into weird ethics shit and it's probably just better to grow limbs instead.
Pretty much this. We already have the technology to just clone hearts and lungs and such, and I'm uncomfortable with creating possibly sentient beings for the sole purpose of farming them. Of course someone can bring up the fact that we're already possibly doing this to cows, pigs, and the like, but a human needs to eat. [editline]18th January 2011[/editline] Also, The Island was a pretty cool movie.
Yeah, I support the cloning of humans and other animals. Why shouldn't I?
I don't really see the point in cloning humans when I can just stick my dick in somebody and make one just as easily.
You can't make the same child as you did before with sexual reproduction. Humans have 46 chromosones, when 2 parents (one male and one female) make the sperm and the egg. 23 Chromosomes of the father is used and 23 Chromosomes of the mother is used. They then form 46 together for that child(ren)'s chromosomes. Asexual reproduction or cloning requires one parent and the child that the parent makes is identical to the parent. You didn't pass grade 9 Science, didn't you?
