Madness will perform live in the front of BBC Television Centre as part of an evening of entertainment bidding farewell to the iconic building.
Celebrating its 53 year history, BBC Four will produce the hour-long programme to be shown on 22 March, nine days before TV Centre closes its doors.
The transition to the BBC's new London home, the central New Broadcasting House, began in October last year.
The 1960s building in west London, once home of Top of the Pops and Blue Peter and sold for £200 million, closes on 31 March and will be redeveloped into hotels, flats, a cinema and office space.
The main television studios will be retained and refurbished for leasing out to production companies, including the BBC, from 2014.
Well at least they're not tearing it down, it looks cool.
sorely disappointed that they're not actually going to let Bill Oddie demolish it

damn, I think I'm ok with this then :P
(especially seeing that they'll probably continue to use the old building)
I've been in that building :3 I was on that TV Show Exchange on CBBC when I was 7 or something :)
Old building looks like a missile silo from the top.

Thats cool :) Thanks for sharing xD
Wasn't the building also used to film Doctor Who in the early days?
My dad works there, been there quite a few times, its botched together like fuck, just a fuck load of hallways and awkwardly sized rooms.
This building is like 5 minutes from my house.
That building looks like it'd be amazing for urbex
good thing someone else is gonna use it, would be a shame to see it demolished

And Monty Python's Flying Circus, Blackadder, Fawlty Towers, Porridge, Dad's Army, I'm Alan Partridge, Little Britain, Mock the Week, That Mitchell and Webb Look, and thousands of other shows. Pretty much anything the BBC has made since 1960, and many shows for other broadcasters too

Looks like a massive toilet seat, but other than that it's cool.
Ah I heard something interesting about why television centre is round the other day on reddit.
My favourite fact about TV Centre, courtesy of my friend who used to be in engineering there (hello to every in the central apparatus room). The reason it is round is so that signals from different studios would always have to travel the same distance to hit the central switching room. This made mixing between stuff going on in different studios much simpler because the signals were in sync etc. etc.
These days its digital buffering everywhere, but in those days they used to actually snip bits off cables to fine-tune the length of time it took for the pictures to get from the studios.
That'll make a kickass hotel.
what is going to happen to the live and kicking intro now
