Everyone Else: Oh No it's a card game with microtransactions
"Artifact is the first of several games that are going to be coming from us. So that's sort of good news. Hooray! Valve's going to start shipping games again."
Gabe said they were jealous of Nintendo for how they can make hardware and software simutaneously, and that's accomplished with the Steam Controller, Link, and some VR hardware.
I'll believe it when I see it
I want to believe
Just shut the fuck up Gaben, please
My poor old heart can't take anymore of this
valve has completely and utterly lost all consumer goodwill they ever had

It is fascinating, no other company in the world would have squandered such a beloved company's image. Just by doing barely anything (that Valve fans care about) for a long enough period of time.
Despite Artifact existing I seriously hope they do deliver.
Hey you guys wanna hear something funny?
Valve's gonna work on HL3
We'll see, about that...
Remember that Gabe? That used to be a line from one of your games.
He also said they had 3 VR games in the pipeline as well. Wonder if those will ever come out.
it's a trap
Developing software and hardware simultaneously is hard when you haven't done much of either separately for a little while now.

I think any company would be foaming at the mouth for the opportunity to do nothing but sit around and print money with almost no effort. And as a matter of fact, almost all of them are attempting to do so.

The failure that was Steam Machines, HTC Vive, controller link as well as a shit ton of R&D behind the scenes

True, but Valve is different, other companies understand marketing and cultivating a fanbase with communication. Valve's reasoning for their silence in the past was that they want products to speak for themselves, but that fails when they don't release new products, hopefully that will be different now.

I'd love to see L4D VR, even if its just 2 completely remade for VR

I'd like to see some interesting new VR experiences that aren't just the same game but with VR
I've already played 250+ hours of Left 4 Dead, and I'm definitely not gonna get anywhere near that with a VR equivalent lmao
Yeah baby, bring back the golden age of pc gaming
Finally Ricochet 2.
Fuck you gaben we wont take this shit anymore
You guys realise that the main thing we've been frustrated at is Valve's silence, right? The reason for their silence is that they've refused to come out and actually outright confirm anything until it's 100% complete since the delays on HL2, since that only leads to more disappointment and frustration among fans. I'm pretty sure the leaks/delays regarding HL2 gave Gabe and the rest of Valve some form of PTSD lmfao.
Now we're actually getting confirmation that stuff's being worked on, and will be shipped in the future. This means that they're now confident that they'll actually be shipping titles that aren't Artifact. I'm still being as cautiously optimistic as ever regarding the elephant in the room, but yeah.
One thing the article mentioned is that they've always been 'jealous' if Nintendo's ability to release a game like Zelda/Mario and define how it's going to be played through the controllers they can produce, and that this is something Valve has always wanted to do. It's obvious that they're comparing this to VR, and that all of their future games are going to capitalize on their new VR tech.
I love Valve and all of their games and I want more I don't care if it takes 20 years i'll buy it and not getting a new valve game doesn't actually hurt me because there's other video games in the world to play????????
Nice Gabe but perhaps announce something more then a card game. I mean "first of several" really is nothing when all we got now is this card game.
At this point Half-Life 3 is the Infinity War of video games, so if they want to make it they'll have to deliver big time.
"Valve's going to start shipping games again" is a phrase with a hollow meaning to me. I've been waiting for something similar to Half-Life since 2007. No matter how many card games and VR projects they ship, it won't fill that void.
I've just accepted that Valve is not interested in making the games I loved them for anymore. Gabe said that long ago, but with his phrasing, there was always that sliver of hope for me. It's vanished.
There was a time when I was ready to buy anything Valve releases, no questions asked. Boy has that changed.
"three big VR games"
now i don't give a shit about your dotas and artifacts and halflifes (you can only hope for so long)
but this sounds like good shit, VR needs more pushes from developers who can properly take advantage of the hardware's capabilities

This. The drama in all the Valve threads is so exhausting. Accept that the company's interests have evolved and that they don't owe you anything for buying their games. If they release something that interests you, good. If not, literally nothing has been lost.
