• Buying new fan for Radeon 4650 - what to look at?
    14 replies, posted
I need to replace the fan in my VisionTek Radeon 4650 because it's making a buzzing/grinding noise. I checked it and I can't seem to open it to put oil or something similar. I've never had to replace the fan on a video card before. What should I be looking at in terms of the specs? I guess dimensions are important, but is RPM important? Will they all come with the same plug that was on the ATi fan?
A new Video card would be best. Your current card is a bomb.

Then I would recommend you look at some aftermarket fans that fit your card. On the lines of this preferably:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118001

Whenever someone posts a question like: "There's something wrong with X", someone replies: "X sucks anyway, replace it." All this guy wanted is some help with replacing the fan and you go tell him to get a whole new card. Way to fix the problem. He didn't even mention that he uses the card for any demanding tasks that would need a powerful GPU, neither did he mention he has any spare money around. Bravo FP, you did it again.:golfclap:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131343 That's 25$ which is a week's savings unless you are under 13 years old. And I didn't imply or say that his current card sucks, only that he should replace it to save the hassle and score a better card in the process.
You could always buy a 120mm fan and mount it pointing it away from the gpu :v:
I decided I wasn't going to buy a big aftermarket cooler, but instead just replace the 45mm fan with another 45mm fan. Cheapest option, and other people who've done it tell me that it's effective.
