it's awful. someone here can probably help you out though
The CPU and motherboard aren't even compatible. I wish I could help, but I'm not an expert. If anything though, get an i3-3225, get 8 gb of ram instead of 16 (assuming he'll only do gaming and media) and go for a 7850/7870 GPU.
He picked an Intel board, to go with and AMD CPU. Tell your mate to calm down a bit, he seems to me like he may be rushing it a bit quickly, if he bought these things, he would not have a working PC. Make sure he learns about compatibility between parts, makes sure everything can support everything else (even down to the PSU cable length). Just some advice for the future, I know how heartbreaking it can be to know you rushed something and picked parts that don't work together. I would suggest a list of parts, but I am off to work now so I don't have time. I'll bookmark this thread and come back tonight if your friend still needs assistance. Other than that, tell him to have fun building.
H77 otherboard and AMD cpu lol, wont work. CPU:Horrible choice, get an i5 or i3, GPU:Horrible choice wont play games very well. RAM:Way to much, especially compared to your horrible cpu and gpu. (4-8 is enough) Case:Horrible brand, and never get one with a psu. Mouse and keyboard:Overpriced. HDD:Overpriced (get the barracuda) PSU:Get a corsair, seasonic or something like that. Also: Disk drive?
Let me help your friend out here. CPU: http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=70541&vpn=BX80637I53570K&manufacture=Intel&promoid=1016 ($220) Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157297&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID= ($95) Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233202&Tpk=XMS3 ($38) HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185&Tpk=Spinpoint%20F3 ($85) Case: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006TVQU6C/?tag=pcpapi-20 ($50) PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182131&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID= ($56 w/ promo) GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150605&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID= ($230) OS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832416550 ($100) Keyboard+Mouse: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823126097 Total: $894 (before shipping/taxes) 1. CPU/Mobo: Your friend's build wouldn't even start up with an AMD cpu and an Intel mobo. That doesn't mix at all. 2. Memory: Your friend won't need 16GB of memory if he is purely gaming, and by the sounds of his lack of tech experience, he is probably doing that. 3. GPU: The GT640 is a horrible card, put the best card he could get for his limited budget in the build. 4. PSU: Rosewill makes solid budget psus and this one on sale is a steal. 5. HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3s are super reliable, relatively fast and with 1TB of space, this will last a while 6. Case: Don't buy from Raidmax, generally the product they are selling isn't worth what you pay for. 7. Mouse/Keyboard: I went cheapo on the mouse/keyboard because getting the computer hardware first is more important in my opinion. If your friend wants to get a mechanical keyboard/better mouse with his pc, let him know he will have performance drawbacks. 8. DVD: Have your friend salvage his disk drive from his current pc, even the old ones are still compatible.
