Budget: $500-$600
Games: SC2, Portal 2, TF2, Crysis, Mostly steam games.
Resolution: Need a new monitor.
Things to reuse: Nothing.
Extras: Need a keyboard and mouse but I can get them from Bestbuy.
Location: USA.
Questions:
Can this computer run the games above on high settings without lag?
Do you need a sound card?
Does the case come with everything you need to mount the hardware?
I also need a monitor, OS, case.
I don't know what crossfire is and I don't know how to overclock.
Sorry I'm new to building computers.
Thanks for the help.
600$, -$99 for OS, -100$ for screen = 401$ left which isn't enough i think.
Cases come with everything to mount, and you dont need a sound card because most motherboards have them onboard.

Would $700 be enough?
Or would the computer be really bad and not be able to play games well?

700 would probably be enough yes.

Skimped PSU, Get a spinpoint f3 as harddrive, Socket AM3 CPU combined with a AM2 mobo.
In other words, don't get that build.

$671
I just made this, it was my first attempted build ever and I was just wondering if it is good?
Also I have 2 x 1GB PC2 6400 Ram
And because it is already that much I am just going to use my windows XP OS again.
Can't be bothered to look if it fits the budget but in this price range, heavily consider a Llano rig.
A3850 and an HD6670, crossfire 6670 with onboard for nice boost in games and spring for 1866mhz ram to get the most out of the system. Llano memory controller is real picky so 1866 mhz ram is a must. From 1333 to 1866 mhz it's a good 10 fps in games.
Also consider the newest SATA 6gbps 2tb Seagates, much better price per gigabyte than the samsung f3 or any other 1tb drive.
[editline]13th July 2011[/editline]
Also don't get the antec 300, over priced piece of shit. $50 for no more features than a $20 case, paying an extra $30 for a brand and fancy mesh front.

WInner, but he also needs a monitor.
It's ~440$, there should be money for that. Wasn't the budget 700$?
[editline]13th July 2011[/editline]
Fuck, spinpoint F3.
[editline]13th July 2011[/editline]
I knew I missed something. Was a bit too fast there.

I didn't add all the parts up, if its 440 he can easily fit a screen in there.
With the HDD it's more like Five hundred, so he could possibly go down to a 6850: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150551&cm_re=6850-_-14-150-551-_-Product

If he wants a good screen that is.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009306
Pretty nice for the price.
[editline]13th July 2011[/editline]
He can upgrade with Crossfire later on for a cheap performance boost.
Thanks so much guys.
All the parts where $551.
Case:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811156223
Monitor:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824254023
With monitor and case $681
Not sure if there are any other better deals for cases and monitors.
If you take the rebates it's about 500$. It might be a pain in the ass, but it'll shave off some bucks.
[editline]13th July 2011[/editline]
And I would get this case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147023&Tpk=blackbone

I said he'd be reusing Windows XP
I said he'd be reusing Windows XP
Then OP should buy Windows 7 as soon as he can. Otherwise, he can wait for the Windows 8 Beta, and run that for a while.
