• Need Help Creating Home Server

Hello everyone, I am trying to create a home server for file sharing, server hosting, etc, in Fedora LXDE. I got through the install fine but wireless networking was not working. I googled my problems and found that I need to make the driver myself. Easy enough, I followed a few steps but I came across a problem, I need to install build_tools. So, I dragged a cable through my house and connected it. No connection. I then figured out that my MCP55 adapter does not work, the work-around, again, needs an internet connection. Any ideas? Could I get the build_tools repository on Windows and then copy it onto a flash drive? Or am I going to be buying a Linux compatible wireless adapter?

If it just contains the typical devel tools such as GCC it shouldn't be too large, go ahead and see what you can do about that. Also that seems a bit strange it wouldn't be auto-detected, fedora is pretty much just a step down from ubuntu. You may want to try lubuntu(LXDE Ubuntu) if these kinds of problems persist, it'll get you up and running fairly fast. Or pelpix was actually working on an even lighter ubuntu running GNOME that actually consumes less ram than lubuntu. (Also can't you just drag the PC into a room with ethernet for a while? I wouldn't dare try installing ANY distro without a local connection. Even if I was installing windows for that matter.)
You can download the Fedora DVD installer and you can use that as a yum repository to install stuff off of. It's a pretty big download if you only need a couple of things, but it'd be way easier than trying to piece together a download of only what you need. This article has some information on how to use the DVD as a repository: http://stephensoftware.wordpress.com/2011/01/06/fedora-14-using-the-dvd-as-a-software-repository/ It says to copy the file media.repo from the DVD to /etc/yum.repos.d/ as packagekit-media.repo
The network controller for wired isn't working either. I've googled it and tried a few things but nothing worked. Also, my internet is capped and we are really close to hitting it, I don't want to risk hitting it. But thanks anyways guys. I tried googling things like using fedora repositories offline, but nothing. I guess I'll just wait 5 days for my internet to reset and download the Fedora DVD.
The network controller for wired isn't working either
If that ever happens you really need to throw it in the trash, having software dependency on a ethernet card is very, very bad.

He probably does have the driver, it might possibly be like NetworkManager or whatever is screwing up the connection.
