• I Just Rediscovered Gojira

I'd listened to these guys nonstop about a year ago, and recently rediscovered them here on Facepunch. They're Progressive Death Metal, which I usually don't like. PDM usually sounds awkward and incorrect to me, but something about these guys just makes the genre work. They do sound awkward quite often, but it's precise and measured. For example, the guitarists will run their fingers across the strings without muting, producing the infamous thread squeak that junks up alot of songs. They'll also play an open chord on the top few strings, or a diminished chord that really shouldn't fit. The thing is, they work these into their songs flawlessly. They go beyond the simple dissonance that most main-stream metal bands use occasionally. They sound truly dissonant and massive, comparable in scale to planets and solar systems. As I said before, most of this stuff on its own would seem like it would make a bad band, but when it's precise and measured, like Gojira's music, it just works. They have the same improbable changes of pace that most other PDM bands share. At first it seems odd, but the more you listen to it the more it makes sense. Also, being a French band, their singer has an odd accent when he sings/screams. Normally this would turn me off of the band but in this case it actually works. Some examples of their music: This song, Love, is probably my favorite song by Gojira. This song is another of my favorites. In it, you can hear more of the singer and the odd transitions in the music I was talking about. I love them alot. They are a Death Metal band that alot of people can listen to, without actually loosing out on anything that makes them good. Their lyrics are deep and they can provoke amazing feeling emotions (not in an "emo" sort of way obviously) that make you feel amazing, only a select few bands can do this with me. Death being another band
Gojira are one of the few gems to be found in the modern death metal scene. They are technical enough to be tech death metal, brutal enough to be brutal death metal, and progressive enough to be progressive death metal, but really they are not just one thing they seamlessly blend it all into something awesomely heavy and great with out being restricted by any of the elements of their music like the individual genres are. Joe Duplantier is one of the best DM vocalists and Mario Duplantier is one of the best DM drummers.
I was more inclined to think it was Progressive Metal. But yeah, they are a really talented band.
Gojira = Godzilla ?
Yup. Listen to one of their songs and you'll see that the name fits. Their sound is incredibly huge.
It's amazing stuff, pretty much unique, no other band I have sounds like them.
I like Flying Whales :3
One of my favourite metal bands by far, as you can probably tell
