Which are the best options?
Make it 900 bucks and I will mention you best computer purchase ever
Do you have a gaming desktop already? If not, I would get that instead. Unless you plan on bringing around your laptops to parties and whatnot numerous times, go ahead and get a laptop. For $700 though you could only play Source games and in general older games (older than 2007, unless of course they are low system requirements for newer titles). And wouldn't you rather be having fun with friends and people when you travel? Isn't that the point?
No idea on laptops. They normally cost alot for a gaming laptop. Uhhhh: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115792 Honestly I don't know, 5650 with either a phenom quad or core i3 seems to be the best on newegg for that price range...and I don't find either great.

Should play well on lower resolutions.
Try this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115796
Worse than the other one.
Worse than the other one.
A bit cheaper though.
A bit cheaper though.
True. Up to OP, save $100 or get 15 more FPS.
True. Up to OP, save $100 or get 15 more FPS.
15? Bull, more like 2-4
15? Bull, more like 2-4
I agree, the phenom quad one basically only has more hdd space and a slight performance boost. >.>
I agree, the phenom quad one basically only has more hdd space and a slight performance boost. >.>
And remember the core i3 has hyperthreading
NO NO NO OP, never buy an Acer laptop. They're literally the shittiest laptops you'll ever buy. I've had three of them fail within 6 months of buying them.
And remember the core i3 has hyperthreading
Hyperthreading is a bit useless at the moment [editline]04:55PM[/editline] For gaming anyway
Hyperthreading is a bit useless at the moment [editline]04:55PM[/editline] For gaming anyway
Nope, i3 hyperthreading is actually used in games. It's i7 hyperthreading that's useless now.
What? The hyperthreading is the same thing between the Core i3 and the Core i7, it's the number if physical cores in the CPUs that differ. i3 = 2 cores, 4 threads / i7 = 4 cores, 8 threads

Every one I have gotten has turned out perfectly fine.
I have an acer laptop, It's is seriously the worst laptop I have ever used in the entirety of my life.
Explain.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220794 Pretty much the best one I can find that's a good brand. Bit old though and has Vista 64bit on it I actually have the even older version of that laptop and it runs pretty much anything good enough. Theirs also a pretty good re-certificated one if you're okay with that. Best specs you're going to get for the price http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220733
Explain.
Cost me $3000. 965 intel integrated. Core 2 duo 30 minute battery life. [editline]02:55PM[/editline] Hinges have broken off and the screen has been cracked several time. Weakest design ever.

[editline]05:17AM[/editline] If you really did spend that much though, you would be the last person anyone would want to take laptop buying advice from.
I was young and naive, and besides my mum bought it for school.
I was young and naive, and besides my mum bought it for school.
Sounds like you got a mediocre gaming laptop with the dedicated gpu ripped out and replaced. Why it would cost that much is beyond me, but I guess there's been worse.
I got an acer 5920. 4 and a half years ago. T7300 2.0 Ghz C3D 8600GT 256mb 2 GB ddr2 (upgraded to 4) 120GB hdd. Cost me around 850$ back then because i sell them (normal price is 1200) It was the best laptop in stock back then. I recently broke it by sitting on it. Before that it has been burried in sand, left in the rain and dropped multiple times (I even cracked the casing) Only to break last month because I sat my drunk ass on it. Acer makes great laptops i do agree that they where horrible in their early days (especially the screen connector) Acer also recently bought Packard bell who is actually making quality laptops right now. Next laptop is gonna be a sony/MSI/Asus/lenovo tough.
Lenovo man. Lenovo or ASUS are my top picks.
Lenovo man. Lenovo or ASUS are my top picks.
the only laptop i could play a good game on was a lenovo, and those are more workstation orientated. i've yet to see a gaming laptop play a game good
the only laptop i could play a good game on was a lenovo, and those are more workstation orientated. i've yet to see a gaming laptop play a game good
Gaming + Laptop in the same sentence.... It just isn't right.
Gaming + Laptop in the same sentence.... It just isn't right.
A more proper term would be a "Laptop used to play source games during class at low quality settings"
Gaming + Laptop in the same sentence.... It just isn't right.
gaming is for desktops. i dont play games on my laptop, but i tried and it surprisingly got 20-30 fps on medium settings.
