• Ram problems, should I order new ram?

Hey guys I built this computer a few months ago and everyone once in a while my computer will blue screen and say memory management or chrome.exe will crash with a memory error. I ran mem test and it will only run for about 8 minutes before erroring out and it doesn't pass one test... The computer will randomly blue screen like once a day and it seems it is completely random. I can play games fine for the most part, it really crashes when ever it wants to. Here is a video I recorded of what is happening. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlcwaVgQ3AY Really it is no problem if I have to buy more and it will fix the blue screens. This is the RAM I bought... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220558 It is currently out of stock, so if needed suggestions for other RAM would be great.
Do you have an Intel CPU? Most modern Intel CPUs (LGA1156/1155/1366) have integrated memory controllers and require DDR3 to have a maximum voltage of 1.5v, and your RAM uses 1.65v. Memory generally doesn't work properly when undervolted, unless you also significantly lower the clock speed. This could be your problem, but you risk damaging the CPU by raising the voltages. But it's more likely it's bad RAM, as undervolted memory usually errors out all over the map, not just one specific address that seems to be happening on your system. I don't know your memory layout, but it seems you have 4 x 2GB sticks, in which case if you looked at the memory slots on the motherboard, it would be the 3rd stick away from the CPU (in DIMM slot 3) that's bad. If you pull that stick out and put the 4th stick in the third slot, it should stop.
I have 2 x 4G... 1 in dimm slot 1 and one in dimm slot 3
Have you properly set the RAM timings and voltage in your BIOS? [editline]11th September 2011[/editline] (and speed)
Have you properly set the RAM timings and voltage in your BIOS? [editline]11th September 2011[/editline] (and speed)
No... I don't really know how. I took out the dimm slot 3 ram and then ran memtest for a minute and it didnt error right away then I put the one that seemed to be working in in dimm slot 1 to dimm 3 and ran mem test and it was working so I am assuming it is this one stick... I can try to change the ram timminand voltage, but if it is this stick I would like to know if you guys have suggestions on the ram I should buy...
It's highly likely that it's under warranty and you just need to RMA it (although you'll be without a computer until you get it back). You could just buy 4GB for now until it is returned. Still, you need to go into your BIOS and do the settings correctly or they probably won't take it because you hadn't set the settings right.
Can you post your motherboard model?

I was kinda ignoring the blue screens... My motherboard model is... If you haven't messed with either, it probably is using failsafe settings for both and not running the RAM at 1600 MHz, but at 1333 MHz.
This is what it looks like Are you saying you want me to change the frequency to 1600 and then place the other ram stick back in?
Well those settings pretty much shows the RAM you pulled out is bad since it wasn't running at full speed to begin with. You could bump the stick of memory in the system up to 1600 MHz, but you'd also have to bump the "Profile DDR Voltage" up to 1.65v, which risks damaging the CPU's integrated memory controller. What I'd do if I were you is RMA the bad stick of RAM (I'd RMA both, but you likely don't have anything to fall back on) and then sell the RAM you get back and get 8 GB of DDR3-1600 that runs at 1.5v instead of 1.65v,
Ok, thanks! Newegg says it has to be returned for replacement within 30 days, and its been more then that so I will have to buy new.
Mixing and matching RAM really isn't a good idea.
didn't say he should, and he could easily get one with the same voltage, speed, and timings which would be fine [editline]11th September 2011[/editline]
Ok, thanks! Should I buy this? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231308 Or a more expensive one... I don't really know and to be honest whatever is better...
That's DDR3-1066, you need 1333 or 1600. Here's some G.Skill DDR3-1600: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231428
Well those settings pretty much shows the RAM you pulled out is bad since it wasn't running at full speed to begin with.
Sandybridge CPU's memory controller support only 1333Mhz without overclocking and sets the speed by default at 1333Mhz so you need to go set frequerency and timings manually if you actually want your RAM to be faster than the memory controller allows by default. Source from Intel website But yea you still need low voltage DDR3 to use with Sandybridge CPU.

I bought the one he suggested already. They are preparing it for delivery.

Just put it in and it is running great, no immediate memtest errors and bios is running it at 1600mhz automatically :D. I had a problem trying to get it in because my cpu coolor is kinda big, but I forgot I could just take the fan off for a second XD. Thanks guys :D
