I Decided to make a light saber prop and do an effects test with rotoscoping. This is my first time ever doing an effect like this, so tell me how it is! :D :D If you have a youtube account please subscribe! Next Weeks Effect : Jumper Effect
Beam should be bigger + brighter.
Thank you for the feedback! I just noticed that at 36, i completely missed the prop on the scoping. Next light saber video will look better, plus my acting will be alittle better -.- lol
You need to place the ends better. During multiple points I can see the stick or whatever it is through the light part.
You have to make that weird stream of light that follows the saber as it moves.

Check out Video Copilot, they have a fantastic (!) sabre preset... here's one I made a year or so ago. It's been a pretty big hit on youtube. I used unused footage from Ryan Vs Dorkman. It was a piece of cake to make too...
... your last sentence.. KILLS MY LIFE! lol It takes so long, frame by frame. I mean its "easy" but it takes forever.
Well yeah... I guess it doesn't seem so bad because we do hand drawn animation at Uni which can take sometimes up to an hour per frame lol

You can do this in Flash too, and no, it's not hard at all. Just takes a lot of time.
D: Darn So is animation tough?
More time consuming than tough to be honest... it's very very tedious. But it always pays off at the end. We've just started working on 3D animation, for my degree project I plan on combining live action, hand drawn 2D, CG 2D and fully 3D into one piece. 3D is a lot less stressful, but people underestimate the amount of work it requires. The purists though, love the ability to create life with a pencil and a stack of paper.
